I’m not in race for any post, says Goel

New Delhi, October 21
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel today said the chief ministerial candidate should be decided before the elections. If it is not done, it will go against the party.

Replying to questions after a press conference, Goel said he is not in race for any post. The chief ministerial candidate will be decided by the party's parliamentary board.

Goel said, "Ï am not a member of the BJP's all-India election committee. I had left the party office yesterday to attend a function at Yamuna Sports Complex where the BJP's Delhi poll in-charge Nitin Gadkari was also to reach. I had not threatened to resign."

"Whether it is the chief ministerial candidate or an MLA, the election committee discusses the issue with the state party office," he added.

Addressing the conference, Goel said during the last 15 years, the Congress government has destroyed the city instead of developing it. One man dies every day due to unemployment and 10 infants die daily due to lack of government hospitals in Delhi. About 50,000 infants died last year. The death ratio is 28 for 1,000 children in Delhi. The level of pollution has also risen in the Capital.

He said the government has spent Rs 2,072 crore to clean the Yamuna river, but it is still like a dirty drain. Now the government says it will be cleaned after the elections.

He said in 2011, the government had announced that it would purchase as many as 11,000 buses, but commuters still face difficulties during the office hours.

In many ways, the Aam Aadmi Party looks to have caught the imagination of people across the country and abroad due to its "out-of-the-box" methods such as having a separate manifesto each for 70 constituencies before finalising the main manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

The idea has been appreciated by many well-known names from across the spectrum of corporate, Bollywood, social sector, etc with the latest being business honcho Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairperson and managing director of Biocon who finds the idea cool!

Giving a thumbs-up, she suggests that this should be extended to other sectors as well to spur economic growth. "…learnt that AAP has come out with a manifesto for each constituency. This should be emulated even at corporate level," she has tweeted on a social website.

Renowned filmmaker Pritish Nandi regards AAP's chief ministerial candidate Arvind Kejriwal as a prominent independent voice in Indian politics whom people must hear even if they do not agree. He too shared: Arvind Kejriwal and AAP are galloping ahead in Delhi.

Another television anchor and producer of reality shows Raghu Ram hailed, "Bravo, Aam Aadmi Party if you are not scared, why we should be?"

A banking professional Meera Sanyal who has contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2009 as an independent candidate from the Mumbai South constituency too came out in support of the AAP candidate Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash and joined in his poll campaign.

She was impressed by the active participation of the volunteers that the party commands. Political revolution in India has begun. Bharat jaldi badlega, she says.

Meanwhile, in the matter of corruption allegations against AAP's candidate from Uttam Nagar, Deshraj Raghav, the Lokayukta is learnt to have pulled up the complainant Achal Sharma of the BJP, saying why an FIR should not be lodged against him for making false complaints.

Sharma was defeated by Raghav in the last MCD elections by a heavy margin. Raghav was accused of being involved in ration scam.

"Achal Sharma had made baseless allegations and the Lokayukta too has made this clear. Even the allegations regarding the old age pension of my father are false as I had informed the social welfare department and the bank about my father's death and I have the documents too. These are just ways to malign me," said Raghav, who is an independent SDMC councillor and an earlier Congressman.

New Delhi, October 21
A 22-year-old woman, who is eight months pregnant, was allegedly stabbed by her husband after an argument in their house in southeast Delhi's Tughlakabad Village area.

The woman has been identified by the police as Reena. She is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the AIIMS Trauma Centre and is stable. Her husband, Amit, has been arrested. The couple stay at Balmiki Colony in Tughlakabad Village.

According to the police, the incident took place between 9 pm and 10 pm on Saturday. Amit had returned home from work and argued over some domestic issue.

"He grabbed a knife and stabbed her on the left s2ide of her chest. When she screamed, he dropped it and fled," said a police officer.

Amit's mother, who lives in the neighbourhood, rushed to his uncle's house nearby and told him that Amit and Reena were fighting. His uncle, Lala Ram, went to his house and saw Reena lying injured on the ground. He informed the police about the incident at about 10.40 pm.

Reena was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. "Luckily nothing has happened to the baby. She was stabbed once on her chest and is stable now," added the officer. The police have not been able to record her statement as the doctors had declared her 'unfit for giving statement'. Her statement is likely to be taken tomorrow morning.

The police registered a case in regard to the incident under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Govindpuri police station.

Lala told the police that Amit and Reena often quarrelled.

New Delhi, October 21
A 30-year-old man allegedly strangulated his wife with an electric wire in their house in northwest Delhi and dumped her body near a canal.

The woman has been identified as Praveen (25). Her husband, Saddam, has been arrested.

According to the police, the couple have been married for three years and have a 10-month-old son. They live at Kalander Colony in Bhalswa Dairy.

The police said that Saddam and Praveen often fought with each other. On Saturday night, the couple had an argument.

Saddam allegedly used an electric wire to strangle her. He dumped her body in the bushes at a canal located near his house.

According to the police, Saddam was afraid of being caught for the murder, so he woke up early on Sunday and went up to the canal. A large crowd had gathered there. He then made a drama of crying.

The police were informed of Praveen's body. They took it to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri, where its postmortem was conducted today.

The police found injury marks on her neck and questioned Saddam in this connection. After a while, he broke down and allegedly confessed to murdering his wife.

As the couple were married for less than seven years, a sub-divisional magistrate is conducting an inquiry.
