Assistant Education Officer suspended
: Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka on Friday suspended Ramandeep Singh, Assistant Education Officer (Sports), Mohali, for allegedly misbehaving with women employees during a sports event. He has also been shifted to the office of the District Education Officer, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.

Change licence policy
: The Punjab Chemists Association has sought changes in the government’s policy on the issuance of drug licences. A delegation of the association met Surjit Kumar Jyani, Health and Family Welfare Minister, here and brought to his notice the demands of the body. The delegation was led by union president Surjeet Mehta. The Minister directed the officials that a committee be constituted to examine various aspects of the demands raised by the association and give its findings so that the matter could be presented to the Chief Minister.

Roko Cancer to hold 5 camps:
Roko Cancer, a UK-based charitable organisation, has decided to hold five mega cancer check-up camps, particularly for breast cancer, in Punjab in the coming two weeks. Trust’s global ambassador Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal said the camps would emphasise on detecting breast cancer among women, apart from routine diagnosis for diabetes and blood pressure. The camps would be held at Chand Baja (Faridkot) on October 20, Majitha (Amritsar) on October 24, Khakh village (Hoshiarpur) on October 27, Ropar on October 28 and at Wara Jodh Singh village (Jalandhar) on October 30. 

Youth’s death turns out to be murder: Eight months after a youth died under mysterious circumstances, the local police has booked two persons for allegedly poisoning the victim to death. Station House Officer Gurbinder Bhullar said the victim, Jagsir Singh of Kothe Samalsar village, along with Sukhwinder Singh and Arsheep Singh had gone to Arshdeep's house in Ludhiana on February 8 and died there under mysterious circumstances. In the chemical examination report of the viscera taken during the postmortem, it had come to light that the youth had died of poisoning due to ammonium phosphate. "Now, we will soon arrest the accused to ascertain the reason behind the murder," he said.

Four of family booked for dowry:
The police has registered a case of dowry against four members of a family, including the complainant-woman’s husband, of local Mansa Devi Nagar. Balpreet Kaur alleged that her husband Maninderjit Singh, a UAE-based NRI, his parents Kuldip Singh and Kulwinder Kaur and brother Vajinder Singh had been harassing her for dowry. She alleged that her husband even tried to defame her through a social networking website.
