Duronto, Rajdhani fares to go up from Oct 17 New Delhi, October 11 The food tariff of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains is included in the fare; as a result, once the food rates are revised, it will lead to an increase in the ticket rates as well. Railway Ministry officials here said the fare of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains would go up further by about Rs 25 to Rs 30 with a revision in food tariff. An increase in the food rates has been necessitated due to increase in the cost of raw material, wholesale price index (WPI) and a manifold increase in the index cost of services. The food rates on these trains had not been revised since 1999. The Railways serve meals worth Rs 3.3 crore a year on these trains. This, incidentally, would be the second increase in passenger fares applicable in a few selected trains in a month, as the Railways had increased the fares by 2 per cent in all trains on October 7. Railway officials said the base fare of premier trains had not been increased and only food prices had been revised, which would result in overall hike in ticket rates. Officials said to arrive at the realistic prices, committees had been nominated by the Railway Board to recommend the revised rates. The committees have scientifically examined all aspects of costing, keeping the objectives to provide hygienic and affordable meals to the travelling passengers on the premium trains. Based on the reports of the committee, the revised menu and tariff have been approved.
