Cong, SAD slugfest over kabaddi
Faridkot, September 25 As the Congress had announced that it will start its separate kabaddi tournament in the village today despite the denial of permission by the district administration, heavy police force was deployed in the village to stop the tournament. But in no mood to relent, many senior Congress leaders reached Dheemanwali in the evening today and inaugurated the kabaddi tournament despite stiff resistance by the district police. Sensing the defiant mood of the Congress leaders, the baton wielding police backtracked, apprehending more trouble. If earlier, armed with teargas shells and batons, the heavy police force, deployed in Dheemanwali and its surrounding area, was apparently resolute in not allowing the local Congress leaders, the police backed down after senior Congress leaders like Bajwa and Jakhar arrived.. Tension was prevailing in this small village for the last two weeks over the staging of two separate kabaddi tournaments. As the Congress and Akalis in the village had announced they would organise their own tournament, the controversy started after the district administration denied them permission for it. But in no mood to relent, the Congress leaders of the area skirted the controversy and announced their resolution to organise the tournament. “Though the Congress was allowed permission to hold a political rally, keeping in view the volatile law and order situation in the village, the police was not in mood for confrontation,” said Gurjit Singh Romana, DSP, Kotkapura. The kabaddi tournament was a prestige issue between a former MLA and Congress general secretary, Kushaldeep Dhillon, and parliamentary secretary, Mantar Brar. Besides Partap Singh Bajwa, Sunil Jakhar, many Congress leaders including Mohammad Sadiq, Raja Warring, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Gurpreet Kangar, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Joginder Singh, Darshan Brar and Kushaldeep Dhillon reached Dheemanwali village to oppose the police.

19-yr-old kidnapped, killed by cousin
Faridkot, September 25 The police today produced the accused, Amandeep Puri (30), and two migrant labourers working in his rice mill before the local district and sessions court. The labourers, Tek Chand and Ramu, had helped Amandeep in kidnapping and killing Sunil. The police said Sunil had gone to meet Amandeep at Zira town in Ferozepur after the latter called him on his mobile on September 8, but had not returned. The call details helped the police in questioning Amandeep, who is the son of Sunil’s father’s sister. During the interrogation, Amandeep told the police that he had summoned Sunil at his rice mill. When Sunil came to meet him, he was served a drug-laced drink. Amandeep said after his cousin fell unconscious, he got nervous about carrying out his plan. Thereafter, with the help of the accused labourers, he strangulated Sunil and threw his body in Rajasthan Feeder Canal near Khosa Dal Singh village, said GS Randhwan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Faridkot. A case of kidnapping, murder and destroying evidence against Amandeep and the two labourers has been registered. Sources said beside the ransom angle of this murder, in the past two weeks, the police has been working on other theories, the prominent among which was Sunil's closeness to a girl. They said though the accused were in the custody of the CIA, Faridkot, for the past over one week, the police were waiting for the recovery of the body and some other clues to solve the case.
