Twist in the trend
Whip creativity with wit to get quirky fashion. There is an inherent eccentricity to this segment of fashion but that doesn’t make it frivolous. It can be in a whole or in elements introducing edginess, like graffiti prints by designer duo Rixi Bhatia and Jayesh Sachdev or a few dragonflies hovering on the creations by Sayantan Sarkar at the latest edition of Lakme Fashion Week. Designers say that quirky fashion gave a break to the industry from norms like embroidery, embellishments, floral prints, checks, among other stereotypes that defined fashion before Manish Arora, the poster boy of quirk in India, sent his designs down the ramp. Now, it’s so popular that at least 10 designers’ collection at LFW flaunted quirky ideas.

the ‘in’ side
As exclusive as it gets
During a recent trip to England, I made sure The Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, was very much on my itinerary. I had read about it several times, but never had the chance to visit.

CELEB POINT
Missing Gannu bappa
When I was in Punjab, we used to watch the Ganpati celebrations on TV. It used to mesmerise me, lakhs of people, immersion of the Ganpati idol and above all, the faith that Lord Ganesha would bring in happiness and prosperity for all.

Pearls of wisdom
Who does not revel in an admiring second look or a glance? Some artfully hide their pleasure and shrug off the importance and some openly exhibit their happiness! But Neha Bhuyan, a student of fashion designing at SIFT, believes in admitting the obvious.
