Dehradun, September 17
More than three months after the mid-June flashfloods and landslides, the Uttarakhand Government has pegged the total number of missing persons at 4,083. All of them are now “presumed dead”.

According to the provisional list released by the authorities, the highest number of missing persons is from Uttar Pradesh (1,142), including 598 male, 448 female and 96 children. It is followed by Uttarakhand (852), Madhya Pradesh (541), Rajasthan (511), Delhi (198), Maharashtra (163), Gujarat (129), Haryana (111) and Punjab (33).

Ninety-two Nepal nationals, including 79 male, 11 female and two children, have also gone missing. The list also includes names of 25 government officials who had been missing since the deluge.

The Uttarakhand Government will now start distributing ex gratia to the next of kin of all those missing, through their respective state governments.
