Protest over Dalit youth’s death
Even after 4 days, no action against miscreants

Four days have elapsed since the violent protest triggered following the killing of a 23-year-old Dalit youth, Shammi Kumar, but no action has been taken against the miscreants, who created ruckus, damaged public property and assaulted commuters, including women.

Burn Unit yet to become functional at civil hospital

Constructed about one and half years ago, the much awaited 40-bedded Burn Unit of Lord Mahavir Civil Hospital is yet to see the light of the day. The hospital authorities cite the same reason for its delayed functioning, i.e shortage of staff and equipment.

Relief to hotels, hospitals

In a bid to promote Punjab as a major tourist and health destination as well as to upgrade the development of infrastructure and promote investment in these sectors, the state government has amended the norms for incentives to hospitals, multimedia centres and hotels through a notification issued on August 20, 2013.

Mai Bhago Scheme to be relaunched from Ludhiana

Youth arrested for raping 13-year-old girl

The city police has nabbed a 20-year-old youth for kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl.
The girl, who was kidnapped on August 28, was rescued today. The accused has been identified as Satpal Singh, a resident of New Shivai Nagar. The victim was living in his neighbourhood.
