Special test to fill NRI quota seats
: The Punjab Government has decided to conduct a special test for filling the vacant NRI quota seats in medical and dental colleges of the state for the current session. The government has issued related directions to Baba Farid University for Health Sciences, Faridkot, the authority responsible for conducting admissions to various medical colleges. The seats would be filled strictly on the basis of merit, the government said.

Majithia: Donate for relief fund: A Youth Akali Dal (YAD) delegation led by its president and Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday called on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to hand over a cheque of Rs 21 lakh as financial assistance towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the flood victims of Uttarakhand. Lauding the YAD initiative for making the contribution, Badal said the youth wing had always led from the front to help the needy in the hour of distress.

Plantation drive at PAP
: A tree plantation drive was conducted at the PAP Complex today. The aim behind the drive was to spread awareness for the afforestation and to make sure that the pollution levels in the PAP headquarters remain within prescribed limits.

Dalit raped at Moga village
: A 36-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped at her house by a co-villager in Jhandiana West village of the district on Monday. A case under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been registered against Gora Singh. Investigating officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Brij Mohan said the victim, in her complaint, alleged that finding her alone, the accused barged into her house and raped her. The police said a medical examination was conducted on the victim, which prima facie confirmed the crime.

Decision on house tax soon
: Haryana Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said today that a three- member committee had been constituted to simplify house tax. However, no decision has so far been taken in this regard. He said various organisations were submitting their viewpoints. A decision would be taken soon in this regard.

Body found in water tank
: A decomposed body of a youth was taken out by the police from a water tank at Asalwas village, about 12 km from here, today. The deceased has been identified as Vikas Mehta,a resident of Bihar.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem to the PGIMS, Rohtak. 

Man commits suicide: Surender (32) of Kosli committed suicide by jumping in front a train near Kosli station last night. His body was found lying on the rail track this morning. A senior GRP official of Charkhi Dadri said his prolonged illness had reportedly led him to commit suicide.
