One killed in road mishap
: Satyadeep of Dabwali was killed while his friends Brij Mohan and Arvind were hurt when the car they were travelling in hit a ridge on the road and rammed into a tree near Bishanpura village today. They were going to attend a marriage at Sadulshehar.

EU court verdict unfortunate: SGPC
: The SGPC has urged the European Union apex court to review its verdict regarding not allowing people to wear religious symbols in schools and colleges. In a statement, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said the implementation of this decision would distance children from their religion. He appealed the EU countries to initiate measures to ensure that this decision is reviewed.

Health camp tomorrow
: Max Super Speciality Hospital will organise a free health camp on July 7 from 9 am to 3pm. Doctors from various fields, including internal medicine, oncology, gastroenterology, dermatology, gynaecology, eye, ENT (ear, nose and throat) and paediatric will examine the patients at the camp.

Man killed in road mishap
: A man was killed in an accident on the Ambala- Chandigarh road this morning. He was going towards Zirakpur when he was hit by a car that was coming from Ambala. Deceased was identified as Sumer, a resident of Mirapur.

: A renowned poet, Dr Surjit Singh Patar, today joined Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, as Professor of Eminence. Dr Patar had earlier served at the PAU.

Flesh trade racket busted
:  24 arrested:In a raid at the Urban Estate police have foiled a flesh trade racket running in Bajwa Colony area. The police has arrested eight men and 16 women from a rented house. The police said two kingpin women have been arrested for running the nexus. A case under the Immoral Trafficking Act has been registered.

Head constable held for extortion
: Head Constable Ashok Kumar was arrested by the local police on the charges of extortion here on Friday. Ashok had allegedly taken Rs 10,000 from a tailor. He was produced in the court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. SSP Mandip Singh Sidhu said Vinod Kumar, the tailor, had lodged a complaint that the accused took the money by threatening to defame him over an illicit relationship.

Linesman killed  in road mishap: An assistant linesman with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited was killed on Friday in a road accident in Sunam, about 13 km from here. The police said the motorcycle driven by Jeewa Singh (54), who was posted in Cheema, collided with a private bus. The bus driver fled from the spot.

Electrician electrocuted: A 30-year-old electrician was electrocuted while his helper sustained burn injuries while repairing a motor at a hotel in Sector 32 here today. The victims, Amit and Sunil, both hailing from Bihar, were taken to the General Hospital, Sector 6, where Amit was declared brought dead. Sunil is stated to be out of danger. A case has been registered against the owner of the hotel.

: IT company Tech Mahindra visited Doaba Women Institute of Engineering and Technology for the recruitment of students passing out this year from degree colleges and engineering colleges. Earlier, it visited the institute on May 30 this year. On this day, a placement drive was also held for fresh graduates. — TNS
