Army Chief visits forward posts in J-K

Jammu, April 23
Amidst escalating tension between Beijing and New Delhi, Army Chief General Bikram Singh took stock of the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The Army top brass, including GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen KT Parnaik briefed the Army Chief afresh on the latest situation in the Daulat Beg Oldie area of Ladakh where an incursion by Chinese troops has been reported.

The Army has already rushed 60 troops to the area, which is under the jurisdiction of 14 Corps GOC, Lt Gen Rajan Bakshi. “The General was also briefed by the 16 Corps

GOC, Lt Gen DS Hooda, about counter-infiltration and security measures in the state ahead of summer”, sources said. After an hour-long meeting at Nagrota, the General, who is on a two-day tour to J&K, flew to Rajouri sector visiting forwards posts along the LoC in Nowshera and held meetings with commanders at 25 Infantry Division.

He took stock of the operational and logistics preparedness and was briefed by the formation commanders on the situation along the borderline.

Gen Singh interacted with troops posted at Kalsian forward area in Nowshera sector where he asked his men to remain vigilant. He remained there till 4.25 pm. Tomorrow, he would be visiting forward areas in Akhnoor sector and Dharmun in Batote area in Ramban district before returning to New Delhi. (With inputs from Ranjit Thakur in Rajouri)
