Muktsar
66-KV power boost for Muktsar villages:
The PSPCL today inaugurated a 66 KV grid sub-station at Phullewala village in Muktsar district. The 66 KV sub-station had come up at a cost of Rs 3 crore, which would cover a number of villages. MLA, Malout, Harpreet Singh inaugurated the grid sub-station.

Cong MLA: Probe cancer scheme:
Congress MLA from Patiala (Rural), Brahm Mohindra, on Monday demanded a Vigilance probe into the Rs 75 crore spent by the Punjab Government under the Mukh Mantri Punjab Cancer Rahhat Kosh Scheme. He alleged the state government had manipulated the figures. Mohindra hit out at the SAD-BJP combine for framing a very complex procedure to avail the grant. He further said the government should simplify the procedure. “The government should also double the money offered under the scheme as Rs 1.5 lakh is not sufficient,” added Mohindra.

Excise employees hold protest rally: The Excise and Taxation Department employees held a rally outside their office on Monday in protest against the government. They alleged that the government had not fulfilled their long-pending demands and not been filling the vacant posts and promoting staff. The employees accused the department of deliberately ignoring their demands.

Youth booked for abduction:
An 18-year-old daughter of migrant labourer Pappu of the Chhatarpur area of Madhya Pradesh was enticed allegedly by a youth from nearby Dhaliawas village on April 19. After the parents’ search for their missing daughter proved futile, her father filed a complaint and the police has registered a case of abduction. Pappu and his family, residing at Dhaliawas, have been working as labourers.

Residents flay closure of public taps@@Kalka: Residents of Chunni Lal Colony, Pinjore, protested against the closure of six public taps. They said the taps, for the past couple of years, were providing drinking water to them. The public health department officials said residents could apply for individual water connections after completing formalities. — OC
