BJP and JD (U) spar over PM candidate
Janata Dal-United JD (U), and a key partner in the BJP- led NDA alliance, indirectly asserted that it would never accept BJP's Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate. The JD (U), which heads a coalition government with BJP in Bihar, is averse to Gujarat Chief Minister Modi, being projected as the prime ministerial due to the 2002 communal riots.



Surat: 10 die, several injured in road accident
Ten passengers were killed and several others were injured in Kosamba village near Surat when a truck hauling a container filled with metallic pipes came from the wrong direction and rammed into a luxury bus bound for Rajula.



Industrialist R P Goenka passes away
Industrialist Rama Prasad Goenka, better known as R P Goenka, passed at his residence on Sunday morning in Kolkata after a brief illness. He was 83 and is survived by his wife Sushila and sons Harsh Vardhan and Sanjiv. R P Goenka was the eldest son of Keshav Prasad Goenka. The Goenkas are one of the oldest business families of India.
