Geetika suicide: SC rejects Kanda’s bail plea
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, March 22
The Supreme Court today refused to entertain the bail plea of former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, arrested on the charge of driving former air hostess Geetika Sharma to commit suicide on August 5, 2012.

A Bench comprising Justices CK Prasad and Gopala Gowda took exception to Kanda bypassing the trial court for seeking bail. Kanda had directly approached the Delhi High Court for getting bail, but the HC rejected its plea on November 19, 2012, upon which he came to the SC.

“We are not inclined to entertain this petition at this stage,” the apex court said in its order, advising Kanda’s senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi to follow the proper procedure by first going to the Cessions Court holding trial in the case.
