Swiss tourist camping in MP gang raped

Datia (MP), March 16
A Swiss female tourist on a cycling trip with her husband was gang raped by seven to eight persons at a forest area in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, the police said today. A rape case has been registered against seven to eight unidentified persons, but no arrest made.

The couple was attacked at a village near Datia town around 9 pm last night when the 39-year-old and her husband — touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour — were camping in a forest area. They were on their way back from Orchha and were proceeding to Agra. The woman was allegedly raped in the presence of her husband. She was rushed to hospital where tests confirmed rape.

"They (the couple) were coming from Orchha on a bicycle and decided to stay in a forest. They were beaten up by some persons who took away their laptops," said ML Dhody, a sub-divisional police officer. Twenty persons have been detained. — PTI
