Undertrial commits suicide in jail:
An undertrial, Ram Sarup (65) of Jhaloor village in the district, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ventilator at the sub-jail here. He was facing trial in a case of attempt to murder. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Badal unwell, to stay off work:
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has cancelled all his pre-scheduled engagements across the state till February 1 due to his ill-health. A spokesperson for the CM’s Office said: "As Badal was not feeling well, the doctors have advised him bed rest for three days". 

Semen banks to be strengthened: Animal Husbandry Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur has said Rs 32.80 crore would be spent on strengthening and upgrading the Nabha and Ropar semen banks.

Two booked for accidental firing at court complex
: The city police has registered a case against advocate Gurinder Singh Sahni, joint secretary of the Ludhiana Bar Association, and his friend for opening fire at the court complex. According to information, Gurinder Singh Sahni was injured in an accidental fire as he checked a pistol, which was purchased by his friend, at the court complex here on Monday afternoon. The incident took place at around 2.30 pm when they were sitting near a library in the court complex. Gurinder's friend had purchased a new pistol a few days ago. In charge of the court complex police post, Jaspal Singh said we had not received any complaint in this regard. "We registered a case under section 336 of the IPC against the duo on Tuesday".

Man held with charas: The Government Railway Police has recovered 1 kg of charas from Lakhni Parshad, a resident of Mehraj Ganj, UP, at the railway platform no. 1 during a routine search. Dilbag Singh, Head Constable, said: "We have arrested him and registered a case under sections 20/61 and 85 of the NDPS Act".

2 booked on charge of molesting minor: The police has registered a case against two persons on the charge of molesting a girl on the pretext of taking her to a doctor for treatment here on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Ravi and Neeraj, both residents of New Janta Nagar in the Daba area. According to information, a resident of Patiala had filed a complaint with the Daba police that her sister lived in the Daba area of Ludhiana. Her niece (sister's daughter) visited her at Patiala a few days ago and she explained that some people used to bring her to a doctor in a car. Neeraj and Ravi used to molest her on the way. "The girl is a minor (15 years) and we have started an investigation after registering a case in the matter," said the investigation officer. 

Kite string injures man: An man suffered injuries on the neck after coming in contact with kite string on the Jagraon Bridge yestereday. Lal Singh was returning home on his scooter.

Motorcyclist killed in accident:
Sukhbir Singh of Nasirabad village was killed on the spot while two of his friends riding pillion sustained injuries when the motorcycle they were on fell into a dry canal near Ajnoha village.

NRI woman donates Rs 1 lakh: An NRI woman, Aiello Serafin, donated Rs 1 lakh to Guru Ravi Dass Gurdwara at nearby Kang-Jagir village today. Gurdwara committee members honoured her on the occasion. Sarpanch Surjit Singh and nambardar Ranjit Singh were also present.
