Poppy husk seized: One Ashwani Kumar alias Bittu has been arrested by the police under the NDPS Act after 55 kg of poppy husk was seized during a raid at his residence in Dharam
Nagari. His interrogation reportedly revealed that he used to sell eatables at the bus stand here but the sale proceeds were not enough to meet his family's domestic needs. Someone lured him to sell poppy husk in small packings and drivers and conductors were among his regular customers, it is believed.

Swine flu case in Barnala village: The first swine flu positive case in Barnala district has been reported from Badbar village. Civil Surgeon Dr Baldev Raj said on Tuesday evening that the patient was now under treatment at the DMC Hospital,
Ludhiana. He said he had got information in this regard from Dr Deepak
Bhatia, the state nodal officer for swine flu. The Civil Surgeon said a team, led by Dr Manish, was sent to Badbar village for a survey. He said the team also gave Tamiflu capsules to those who had come in contact with Harpreet Singh, the swine flu patient.

7,000 participate in ‘Run for Health’: Over 7,000 persons participated in a "Run for Health" event organised by the Army and the local administration to commemorate the Army Day here on Tuesday. The aim of the event was to create awareness among the general public regarding healthy living and motivate the youth to join the Army. Minor raped by four youths, 1 arrested: Four youths have been booked, one of them arrested, for allegedly raping a minor in Zira sub-division of the district on Monday. The incident occurred at a time when the girl was waiting for a bus to reach home. One of the accused reportedly offered her a lift but instead of dropping her home, he allegedly took her to a shop in Zira where three other youths along with the abductor "raped" her. Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Pal Singh said the accused have been identified as Sukhdarshan Singh, Neel Kamal, Samir and Gautam (both brothers). Sukhdarshan has been arrested.

Safai Labour Union meets Mayor:A delegation from Safai Labour Union and Disposal Worker Union raised the issue of non-payment of salaries with Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria here on Monday. The delegation members rued that their regular staff is not getting salary on time for the past two months. Vijay Kumar, general secretary of the union informed that earlier, they used to receive salaries by seventh of every month, but for the past two months, they get salaries around 28 date of the month. Ex-servicemen burn Pak Rangers’ effigy: On the occasion of the Army Day on Tuesday, the Muktsar-Malout unit of the Ex-Soldiers Welfare Wing burnt an effigy of Pakistan Rangers in protest against the barbaric killing of two Indian soldiers in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir recently. 10-year-old boy crushed to death: Anurag (10) was allegedly crushed to death by a truck near the Pyori railway crossing in Gidderbaha on Monday.
