Anger in Mussoorie over killing of soldiers
Mussoorie, January 13 The Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen's Association has condemned the dastardly act committed by the Pakistani troops in strong words and has appealed to the government to react strongly to the issue as people in the town were angry at the cowardly act done by Pakistan. The ex-servicemen in unison have offered their services and said that they were capable of giving a befitting reply to Pakistan in case of declaration of war. Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi, who is also an ex-serviceman himself, condemned the heinous act perpetrated by the Pakistani army and offered his services to Indian Army in case of war against Pakistan. Ganesh Joshi said soldiers died in skirmishes but not in this manner, as it was against the Geneva Convention. Ganesh Joshi said that if the Indian Army needed his services, he was ready to become a martyr for the cause of the nation. The Sports Minster of the state, Dinesh Agarwal, said that the blood of every citizen of the country was boiling at the cowardly act committed by Pakistan, and demanded that the Indian Government should take such steps that Pakistan did not repeat the act in the future. Former Navy official of the Southern Naval Command, Hugh Gantzer, who resides in Mussoorie and was stationed in INS Khukri, the only naval ship that was sunk by the Pakistani submarine Ghazi a month after his transfer in 1971, is of the view that the act of beheading soldiers at the border by Pakistan was absolutely unheard of in any civilised army of the world, and rightfully so, had lead to international condemnation. Hugh Gantzer further said that according to media reports, the Pakistan army had denied the beheading of Indian soldiers, which raised the doubts that they might have connived with terror outfits such as Taliban, who were given a free hand to mutilate the body of the Indian soldiers. "It is quite possible that terrorist outfits like Taliban, which have been involved in beheading people in the past, had committed the gruesome act of beheading Indian Army soldiers. But even if terrorists were involved, they would not have done without the assistance of the Pakistani army, thus proving that Pakistani army was equally responsible for the inhuman act, added Gantzer. Gantzer further opined that Pakistan also was aware that it could lose the war against India and was merely provoking it by such incidents to internationalise the whole issue at the border and seek intervention of a third party such as the UN in it's favour. The Indian government had categorically denied any third party intervention so far. Gantzer said that the response of the government was measured to the whole incident of aggression on the border and reacted maturely and not emotionally, to the disgust of Pakistan. He was of the view that India should look at all the available alternatives without falling into the trap of provocation by Pakistan in the future. Hugh Gantzer reminisced his years in active service in the Indian Navy and recalled that India, applying completely different tactics while attacking Karachi, had bombarded Karachi by towing missiles on small boats near the port, leading to massive devastation, much to the shock of the Pakistan armed forces, which resulted in victory for India in the 1971 war. Hugh Gantzer was stationed in INS Khukri, a British Type 14 (Blackwood-class) frigate of the Indian Navy, and after a month of his transfer from the frigate, the ship was sunk off the coast of Diu, Gujarat, India, by the Pakistan navy Daphne-class submarine Hangor, on December 9, 1971, during the Indo-Pak war. This was the first warship sunk in action by a submarine since World War II. It remains the Indian Navy's only warship to be lost in war to date. |
