UP CM meets family of Delhi gang-rape victim
Tribune News Service

Lucknow, January 11
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today spent 30 minutes with the family of the Delhi gang-rape victim at their ancestral village of Medawar Kala in Ballia on the occasion of her “kriya”. He handed over a cheque for Rs 20 lakh on behalf of the state government to the bereaved family.

Expressing condolences to the family, he assured them of all possible help they needed. He spent most of the time speaking to the male members of the family and later went inside to spend some time with the victim’s mother.

Following the CM’s visit, the village is expected to see some positive change. A primary health centre (PHC) is set to come up in the village for which land has already been made available. However, it would not be dedicated to memory of the rape victim as there is no such provision under the law, the CM clarified.

The family is set to return to Delhi soon.
