63 FIRs registered against illegal miners: Industries and Commerce Minister Anil Joshi on Tuesday said that as part of its drive against illegal miners, the Punjab Government had registered 63 more FIRs in December last. Giving district-wise details, Joshi said 13 cases had been registered in Faridkot, 12 in Ropar, eight in Amritsar, six in Ferozpur, five each in Mohali and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, four in Hoshiarpur, three in Jalandhar, two each in Pathankot, Bathinda and Ludhiana and one in Moga. He said 78 vehicles had also been impounded across the state.

Liquor license of The Hub cancelled: The Excise and Taxation Department has cancelled the liquor licence of The Hub, a resto-bar that had been surrounded by controversies in the past. "Irregularities were detected in the liquor stock of the resto-bar. A verification found that the stock at the pub did not match the sale and purchase record. They had even kept brands that they were not allowed to sell," said Kanwalpreet Brar, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner.Muktsar
PSEB gets first woman chairperson: The state government on Tuesday appointed Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, a renowned academician and Principal of Guru Nanak College for Girls, Muktsar, as the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) chairperson. Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka, in a statement, said Tejinder Kaur was the first woman to be appointed to the post. She has an experience of more than 25 years in the field of education. She has been working as Principal of Guru Nanak College for Girls, Muktsar, for the last more than 10 years and has also remained a Senate member for two terms of Panjab University,

2nd purse snatching incident in two days: Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched the purse of a woman near the Deputy Commissioner's Office here on Monday. The victim, Salwant Kaur of Patti town, who was traveling in a rickshaw, alleged that she had Rs 50,000, a mobile phone and important documents in her purse. A similar incident had occurred a day before as well in Deep Avenue area where a woman was targetled by two youths riding on a motorcycle. Cold wave claims migrant's life: The body of an unidentified migrant labourer, who appeared to be in his 40s, has been found in Khella village of Goindwal Sahib. The police said prima facie it appeared that the victim had died due to cold. The police has initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
