Morgan clinches last-ball win
Mumbai, December 22 Needing three off the last ball, Morgan hit Ashok Dinda for a straight six to seal the match in England's favour by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium. England required nine off the last over, thanks to the 26-year-old Morgan's relentless onslaught that saw him smash five fours and two sixes. Chasing a challenging target of 178, England were provided a blistering start by openers Michael Lumb and Alex Hales, who put on 80 runs for the first wicket in just over eight overs. Lumb smashed 50 off a mere 34 balls while Hales made 42 off 33. But after their efforts, the show belonged to Morgan. England needed 23 off the last two overs and managed 14 of them against Parvinder Awana. The visitors, who opted to chase after winning the toss, were helped by a wayward Indian bowling attack and a shoddy fielding display that enabled the openers to score quick runs. Apart from Lumb – who hit six fours and two sixes - and Hales, who had made a quick-fire 56 off 35 balls in the first match, skipper Morgan and Jos Butler (15 off seven balls) contributed significantly to England's successful run-chase on a good batting track. For India, Yuvraj Singh was the lone bowler to succeed with another excellent spell of three for 17, following his match-winning effort of three for 19 in the first match at Pune where England lost by five wickets. Yuvraj got the wickets of the two openers and Luke Wright (5), but did not get the desired support from the other bowlers. The worst performers were Awana and Piyush Chawla. Our pacers were a bit raw but we need to back them: Dhoni
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni criticised his inexperienced pacers Ashok Dinda and Parvinder Awana for giving away too many runs, but said the duo needs to be backed as they are good future prospects. "The dew really does change the course of the game but we didn't start very well, we were a fraction short. There was something there for the fast bowlers but they were cut and pulled early on," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation at the Wankhede stadium here. "We came back well but couldn't keep it going. We could have got another 10-12 runs at the end of our innings too but overall is was a good performance. The fast bowlers are still a bit raw but they got good experience and exposure to international cricket. They are good prospects for us but we need to back them," he added. Morgan, who snatched the win for England with a six off the last ball, said with a great Twenty20 pitch on offer the visitors had backed themselves to chase down the target set by India. "It was a hell of a game of cricket, a fantastic match and a great pitch for a game of Twenty20. The stats suggest, particularly at this stadium, that the chasing side usually wins and we backed ourselves to do that," he said. Morgan also lauded his side's fielding effort in the match. "It was a good job because we nearly fell short. Fielding was outstanding, we try to save 10-15 runs each time and today we were amazing," said Morgan, who was adjudged man-of-the-match for his match-winning knock. Man-of-the-series Yuvraj Singh, who scalped six wickets in two matches, was pleased with his performances in the rubber.

ranji trophy
Valsad, December 22 Not only Harbhajan but paceman Sandeep Sharma and Siddarth Kaul also took three wickets each after Punjab opted to field at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium. None of the Gujarat batsmen could score a half-century but some gritty batting by the lower-order players ensured that the hosts have something on the board to fight for. At the top, opener Samit Gohel (41) and Manprit Juneja (42) batted well but Harbhajan caused a middle-order collapse by dismissing Gohel, rival skipper Parthiv Patel (22) and Y Venugopal Rao (13). Gohel and Juneja had added 79 runs for the second wicket when Kaul had Juneja caught behind for his second wicket. Kaul had earlier provided the first breakthrough by bowling opener Smit Patel (18) Harbhajan then sent back Gohel and Patel and later Rao. From a comfortable 107 for two, Gujarat were struggling at 173 for seven but Jasel Karia (40) and Rush Kalaria (40) rescued the side with a 84-run stand. Kaul broke the partnership and took his third wicket when he had Karia caught behind. Punjab stumper Uday Kaul took four catches behind the wicket. Brief Scores: (Gujarat): 261 for nine in 90 overs. (M Juneja 42, S Gohel 41; Sandeep Sharma 3/40, Harbhajan Singh 3/61). Mishra scores unbeaten 86 as Haryana reach 293/7

Abhinav Mukund was the fielder on both occasions -- at at short leg and silly point. Srivatsava's partner, Mukul Dagar, was caught by Baba Aparajith off Malolan Rangarajan. Uttar Pradesh were 57 for two before Mohammad Kaif and Umang Sharma brought about some stability to their innings.

Pakistan players get advice from Inzamam, Miandad
Kolkata, December 22 The team today arrived in New Delhi en route to their flight to Bangalore for the first bilateral series with India since 2007. "I have told them to forget about technical issues when it comes to batting. Just go and play your natural game and shut out the pressures that come naturally with the big crowds," Inzamam said. Inzamam, who is Pakistan's most capped player with 120 Tests and 378 One-day International appearances, worked with the players as batting consultant during a conditioning camp ahead of the tour. Inzamam paid specific attention to the problems faced by flamboyant all-rounder, Shahid Afridi, who has scored two half centuries in the practice matches. "Once you start feeling the pressure you start to struggle. That is the beauty of Indo-Pak cricket contests," he said. He recalled that when he went to India as captain in 2005 he told the players to relax and enjoy the game and the results were positive. "I remember most of the batsmen got runs including myself, Younis (Khan) and (Mohammad) Yousuf." He said the pressure of playing in India can only be handled by working as a close knit unit. "A tour to India is different from other tours. The expectations to win are very high from our own people and defeats and poor performances are not forgotten easily." This will be the first bilateral series between the two countries since the Mumbai attacks.

Kashyap, Sindhu storm into finals
Lucknow, December 22 Kashyap, the 2012 Olympic quarter-finalists, survived a scare from the unheralded Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto before scoring a 21-18 23-21 win at the BBD UP Academy. Earlier, Sindhu, the women's world No. 23 and second seed in the tournament was hardly tested in her 21-12 21-14 win over Thailand's Sapsiree Taerattanachai. In the men's semifinal, Kashyap dominated almost the entire length of the match, then lost focus in the closing session but made a timely comeback in the finish. The clash turned dramatic at the most unexpected moment with the Indian leading 17-10 in the second game. Kashyap proved superior to the Indonesian in every department-be it in the long rallies, court coverage and placement of shots.
