Kasab’s execution ‘belated but a tribute to martyrs’
Rewari, November 22 Simultaneously he hoped that now Afzal Guru, who attacked Indian Parliament in 2001, would soon be sent to the gallows as well. Sandhu was here on an invitation extended to him by functionaries of the Deshbhakt Yuva Sangthan , who accorded him a rousing reception prior to his confabulation with media persons here. Stating that India for which Bhagat Singh made the supreme sacrifice, had not yet been carved, Sandhu pleaded for a radical transformation of the existing system of governance. While admitting that the government had not yet conferred the veneration on Shaheed Bhagat Singh which he richly deserved, he hastened to add that it was really gratifying to note that Bhagat Singh presently stood enshrined in the hearts of millions of Indians. Specifically mentioning about the 404-page handwritten diary which Bhagat Singh penned down in English and Urdu during his 717- day internship (imprisonment), he said its Hindi edition would soon be brought out so that the present Hindi-knowing generation could have a fine grasp of the things for which Bhagat Singh lived and died. |
Irregularities found in functioning of night shelter
Gurgaon, November 22 It was found that the person supplying food to the night-shelter charged the MCG for food of all inmates while he actually provided food to only a few of them. Several other irregularities were also found by MCG Assistant Engineer (HQ) who inspected the shelter. For instance, nearly 90 per cent of the inmates did not have any identity cards or proofs. Moreover, most of them were found to be employed with some contractor and hence were not eligible for getting shelter. Many of them also consumed alcohol, narcotics and other intoxicants. The inspecting officer maintained that on being questioned about the irregularities, the supplier asked him to contact Sanjay Chugh, the MCG PRO, who is also the nodal officer for the night-shelter. All this has been mentioned in the inspection report submitted to the Joint Commissioner (HQ) of the MCG recently. Raman Sharma, the president of the Progressive Gurgaon Forum, has brought the matter to the notice of the Haryana Chief Secretary and urged him to take exemplary action against the contractors and the officials. On the other hand, Chugh has refuted the allegations levelled against him and termed the inspection report as baseless. In a communiqué to the MCG authorities concerned, Chugh has accused the inspecting Assistant Engineer of not conducting the inspection in a fair manner, misbehaving with the shelter inmates and food-supplier and submitting a biased report. |

Basic infrastructure in state crumbling: Ajay Chautala
Hisar, November 22 He said the INLD government had created a network of roads in the rural areas for better connectivity from 1999 to 2005. However, all rural roads were crumbling due to neglect all over Haryana as the government
had not maintained these roads properly and the money spent on maintenance had been siphoned off. He said he was pained to see that educational infrastructure had also met the same fate. Crores of rupees were spent on satellite education scheme by the Hooda government but it had not been functional even for a day. Hospitals, he said, were in a bad shape and the poor had been forced to go to private nursing homes for treatment at a huge cost. The buildings were crumbling and the medical infrastructure was lying idle because of disuse. Alleging that there was rampant corruption in government offices, he said the life of the common man had been made extremely difficult by the Hooda government. He criticised the government for acquiring farmers’ lands at low rates and then passing these off to builders at a huge cost. The farmers and their families were left in the lurch. Chautala said the Congress government was by far the most unpopular government in Haryana’s history. |
REALITY SHOW ON COLORS TV
Sirsa, November 22 Amit, who is leading a team of nine daredevil youths from very poor families of Sirsa town under the name of “Acrobatic Boys”, said their performance had already come to an end on Saturday when Shiv Sainiks thronged studio number 17 of Film City to tell that no shooting could be continued as Thackeray had died. The performance of “Acrobatic Boys” was later telecast on Saturday night and Sunday morning and it received standing ovation from all the three judges - Kirron Kher, Karan Johar and Farah Khan. In fact, Farah went up to the main stage for a few steps of dance on the song “Desi Boys” with the team’s youngest member 13-year-old Sanjay. “The shooting was going on very well with actors Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma sitting on the sets as guests to promote their latest movie “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” and our performance had already finished when we were informed that there would be no further shooting and the results, too, would be announced next week now,” Amit said when The Tribune contacted him on phone. He said though they had received a tremendous response from the judges, they were keeping their fingers crossed till the next week as far as the result of people’s vote was concerned. All members of “Acrobatic Boys” come from a very poor background and they have prepared themselves for the show without any resources at their disposal under the tutelage of a gymnastic coach, Radhey Sham. Amit, the 20-year youth, who is leading the team, is a final-year student of BA from a local college. His father ekes out a living by painting tractor-trolleys and other vehicles. The parents of other members, too, perform menial jobs to eke out a living for their families. |
‘Close shave, yet I was relaxed during emergency
landing’
Chandigarh, November
22 Since the other engine was functioning normally, I was confident that the copter would land safely, Jindal, whose father OP Jindal had died in a helicopter crash near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh in March 2005, just days after becoming a Cabinet minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government, said. The Congress MP said since the copter landed on the runway, it took about two hours for it to be wheeled out.The copter wheels were requisitioned from the Pinjore Flying Club, Pinjore, as the Haryana Government also had similar helicopters, he added. Even after the copter was taxied out of the runway around 7.30 pm and there was no damage to the runway, the Indian Air Force (IAF) authorities took its own time to certify that it was safe for taking off. The helicopter carrying Jindal, which was on its way from Kurukshetra to Chandigarh and was scheduled to land at the VIP helipad at Rajindra Park adjoining the high-security Punjab and Haryana High Court, had to make an emergency landing at the airport around 5.32 pm. Against the backdrop of TV channels splashing the news, Jindal tweeted: "I wanted to avoid writing about this helicopter incident as all is fine but the media found out anyways so must clarify that all is well." |
Roads in bad condition in Ambala
Ambala, November 22 According to sources in the PWD Department, the authorities here have never bothered to carry out any study to determine the strength of the road surface once the work on recarpeting of roads is completed. Some of the roads are not thick enough and waterlogging coupled with lack of drainage aggravate the problem in the rainy season. Usually the top layer begins to show signs of use in five years. However, in Ambala, it has been found that all the three layers needed heavy strengthening. The condition of roads also indicates that maintenance is not commensurate with the growing traffic resulting in fast deterioration of the riding surface of the roads. Mahesh Pal Singh, a local resident, lamented that other than the roads in the cantonment area which are maintained by the Army, most of the roads in Ambala Cantt and Ambala City, were not upto the mark. He said that National Highway 72 which connects Ambala city to Naraingarh had been under maintenance for the last several months and the authorities had not bothered to provide the commuters with any alternate route. The road connecting Ambala city with Ghanur in Punjab presents a poor picture of upkeep. Even as authorities had spend a considerable amount of money to lay this road using concrete a few years back, it got damaged during the process of laying of sewage pipelines in the area and it never got repaired thereafter. The condition of the roads within the twin cities is no different. Various roads in the city including those in Sonia Colony, Court Road, Jagadhri gate to Nahan House, roads outside LIC building, the overbridge in grain market along with roads in Cantt area including the ones connecting the local bus stand to Machli Mohalla, KD hospital to Aggarsen Nagar and Defence Colony to Handesra village have been in bad shape. Pritam Singh, another resident, said that authorities should show some more concern towards the upkeep of roads to avoid inconvenience to commuters. |

He also said that the “Chaupal” had so far organised 150 free medical camps in different villages of the National Capital Region and around four lakh population was screened in these camps.
