Employee killed in fire at Panipat thermal plant Panipat, November 6 The plant authorities said a fault was detected around 5.55 pm when an employee, identified as Rambhaj, accidentally came into contact with some wires and was electrocuted. Two other employees were singed and rushed to a private hospital, they said. The unit-V in charge said the death was accidental. “It is an accident, but we have ordered an inquiry” he added. There are reports that the sparking led to a fire followed by a blast, but there was no confirmation from the plant authorities or the police. The fire brigade officials said the sparks led to a fire, and that one person died and two others sustained injuries. The absence of any official version, either from the plant management or the police, left the staff guessing about the incident. The 210 MW unit-V of the 1360 MW plant was commissioned in March 1989. Some problems have been reported in its boilers, sources said.
