Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 30
The Haryana Government today appointed SN Vashisht, director of the State Vigilance Bureau, as the Director General of Police. The 1981 batch IPS officer succeeds Ranjiv Singh Dalal, who retires tomorrow after a record tenure of nearly six-and-a-half years.

Vashisht, who has held important positions in the Haryana Police, including Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Haryana Armed Police and ADGP (Crime), has been director of the State Vigilance Bureau since December 27, 2010. He is credited with important reforms in the Haryana Vigilance Bureau.

Vashisht was handpicked up by the Hooda government by superseding 10 officers of the Haryana cadre working in and out of the state. The appointment is likely to test his administrative and police skills as he has come in at a time when the state’s crime graph has soared in the wake of the spurt in rape cases.

Meanwhile, Ranjiv Singh Dalal has been appointed as director general of the Haryana Institute of Public Administration at Gurgaon with effect from November 1, 2012 for a period of one year.

Sharad Kumar, DGP (Crime), will be director general of State Vigilance Bureau. RK Vachher, DGP (Human Rights and Litigation) will take over as chairman of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation at Panchkula.
