Khurshid talks tough, denies fund bungling by his NGO
Shows documents to defend Trust’s activities, says won’t resign

New Delhi, October 14
Strongly defending the activities of the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, a non-governmental organisation he is associated with, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid today showed documents and photographs to counter allegations that government funds meant to provide aid and material to the differently abled persons were bungled.

Shinde: Can’t take risk of withdrawing AFSPA
Srinagar, October 14
Even as Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde complimented the people of Kashmir for “fighting terrorism”, he said the Centre could not take the “risk” of withdrawing the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state right now.

In what is a grim reminder of society’s insensitivity towards women who have been wronged, the panchayat of Khai village in Fatehabad district of Haryana has declared the “price” of a 13-year-old rape victim’s honour as Rs 35,000.

Curb drug inflow, Badal tells Centre

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today batted for raising a second line of defence along the border with Pakistan to stop the inflow of drugs into the state. The Chief Minister was responding to a query on the high incidence of drug addiction in the state at a press conference here today.

CPM to protest rapes in Haryana, Bengal
New Delhi, October 14
Outraged at growing crime against women amid recent incidents of rape in Haryana and West Bengal, the CPM today decided to observe a national-level protest on October 30 to seek the passage of legislation against sexual assault. The decision was taken by the CPM Central Committee here.
