Kanda’s former manager detained for questioning

New Delhi, August 23
The Delhi Police today detained Shivroop, an assistant human resource manager in now-defunct MDLR airlines owned by former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, in the Geetika Sharma suicide case. Ankita, the victim’s former colleague, was also summoned to join investigation here immediately.

Shivroop was detained and was being questioned, the police said. The police is contemplating the filing of an FIR against him under the Information Technology Act.

Shivroop allegedly created fake email IDs and it is understood that the police is questioning him on how he went about it, including allegedly sending threats to Geetika when she was in Dubai.

The messages sent through email informed the former air hostess about extradition proceedings initiated against her.

Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Nupur Mehta alleged that Ankita was Kanda’s second wife and has a daughter from him.

Though Geetika’s suicide note makes a mention of such a relationship, it did not contain any name. “Ankita used to say that she is Kanda’s wife. I can’t say whether she was speaking the truth,” Mehta told The Tribune on the phone.

Police sources said that investigators had resolved the doubt about the existence of two different dates that appeared on the two-page suicide note written by Geetika on the night of August 4.

The police said that emotional pressure led the victim into making the mistake. “We have verified the note. It was written on the same day. The two different dates show that she was under immense pressure,” a senior police officer said.

Kanda will be produced in a Rohini court on August 25 and the police plans to seek a seven-day extension to his remand. “We will demand seven more days as the interrogation is still not complete,” Northwest district police chief P Karunakaran said.

Kanda, who had surrendered on Saturday, was today taken for a routine medical examination to a hospital as directed by the court. Kanda was sent into seven-day police custody on August 18.

The suicide note left by Geetika Sharma blamed Kanda and Aruna Chadha for her suicide.
