Coal blocks Parliament for Third day
Expose BJP tactics: Sonia to party MPs

Even as the confrontation between an adamant UPA government and an unrelenting Opposition over the CAG report on allocation of coal blocks paralysed Parliament for the third day in a row on Thursday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi told her party MPs to launch an offensive against the BJP’s demand for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation.

Bill for separate status to Sikhism today

After the amendment of the Anand Marriage Act for separate registration of Sikh marriages, the community is now setting its eyes on amendment of the Constitution to recognise Sikhism as a full-fledged religion.

Kanda’s former manager detained for questioning
New Delhi, August 23
The Delhi Police today detained Shivroop, an assistant human resource manager in now-defunct MDLR airlines owned by former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, in the Geetika Sharma suicide case. Ankita, the victim’s former colleague, was also summoned to join investigation here immediately.

Cabinet nod to make anti-terror law tougher
New Delhi, August 23
The country’s principal anti-terror law — the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) — will now have more teeth. It will now include several unscrupulous acts and illegal economic activities under the definition of a “terrorist act”.

Don’t post unverified facts on social sites, govt tells depts
New Delhi, August 23
Even as the Microblogging site Twitter today agreed to block all fake accounts in the name of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the government has issued guidelines for its departments using social media networks asking them not to post confidential information and "unverified" facts.

Gold scales peak 31K
New Delhi, August 23
Gold prices today surged to an all-time high of Rs 31,035 per 10 gm largely on the back of international factors, including the hope for a fresh fiscal stimulus for the US economy. Indian consumers have, meanwhile, turned cold to the yellow metal and the demand is down by 60-80 per cent.
