BJP, NDA partners’ support to Ramdev worries Cong
New Delhi, August 14
The open support extended by the BJP and its NDA partners to Baba Ramdev’s agitation against black money has become an added worry for the Congress as it fears their joint campaign will boost the electoral prospects of the saffron party by keeping the public spotlight on the UPA government’s failures.

President Pranab cautions against assault on democratic institutions
New Delhi, August 14
Terming anger of the people against corruption and protests as legitimate, President Pranab Mukherjee today warned that widespread dissent with attacks on democratic institutions, especially Parliament, could lead the country on the path of chaos.

Today, as a 97-year-old, he feels that there’s a vital need to put the country and its citizens on a right path. Bharpur Singh, who now stays in Australia, is the surviving witness of the tragedy. He is on a visit to the holy city to meet his family and friends.

Maruti to resume partial production at Manesar from August 21
Gurgaon, August 14
The management of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has decided to resume partial production at its arson-hit Manesar plant from August 21. Before that, a “havan” will be organised at the plant on August 20. Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Osamu Suzuki is slated to arrive here on August 22 on a five-day visit.

Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh passes away
Chennai, August 14
Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union minister and Congress stalwart from Maharashtra, died in a city hospital here. Sixtyseven-year-old Deshmukh passed away at 1.40 pm at the Global Hospital, a week after he was flown here from Mumbai in an air ambulance in a critical condition. (Details on Nation page)

Whistle-blowers’ Protection Bill in RS
New Delhi, August 14
The government today introduced the Whistle-blowers' Protection Bill, 2011, in the Rajya Sabha which seeks to set up a regular mechanism to encourage persons to disclose information on corruption or wilful misuse of power by public servants, including ministers.
