With 73% rainfall deficit, Haryana stares at drought
Chandigarh, July 26
The spectre of severe drought stares Haryana in the face. The overall rain deficiency in the state has been pegged at 73%, something which is enough to ring the alarm bells in the agriculture sector. The highly deficient rainfall has already taken its toll on the sowing of the Kharif crops in the state, say sources in the Agriculture Department.

SC gives SGPC two weeks to reply on Sehajdhari row

The Supreme Court today granted two weeks’ time to the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to respond to the contentions of the Sehajdhari Sikh Federation (SSF) that the Sikh temporal body had no right to appeal on the Sehajdharis’ voting rights issue.

HP, Punjab sign pact on Naina Devi ropeway

In about three years, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab will be able to achieve what the pilgrims to Naina Devi and Anandpur Sahib have prayed for: A ropeway to link the two shrines. The two states on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding committing them to build a 3.75-km aerial ropeway.

Veteran congress leader ND Tiwari’s DNA test result, kept in a sealed cover, is slated to be opened and announced in the Delhi High Court tomorrow. The result will determine whether 32-year-old Rohit Shekhar is the biological son of the octogenarian Congress leader.

Sibal launches anti-ragging helpline
New Delhi, July 26
Students and parents do not have to put up with ragging anymore. The government today launched an all new anti-ragging portal where anyone, even a witness of ragging, can lodge a complaint and get an identification number for the same to see it followed up to the logical end. The portal registers complaints in three categories - normal, serious and very serious and responds accordingly.
