Air India pilots call off 58-day strike
Pilots not criminals, says HC; tells management to hear out their grievances
New Delhi, July 3
Air India pilots today called off their 58-day-old strike after the airlines management agreed to consider their grievances “sympathetically”. Both the management and the pilots, numbering 434, made their respective announcements in the Delhi High Court that had yesterday asked them to try and amicably settle their dispute out of court.

Centre approves 2MT wheat export to ease storage crunch
New Delhi, July 3
Granting surplus states such as Punjab their long-pending demand, the government today gave its in-principle approval for the export of 2 million tonnes (MT) of wheat from its buffer stock to clear storage space for new crops. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved export of 2MT wheat from the government stock at a floor price of $228 (about Rs 12,400) per tonne, Food Minister KV Thomas said after the meeting.

Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of over Rs 8 crore on three entities of cable TV operator, Fast Way Group, for abusing its dominant position in Punjab and Chandigarh.

HC refuses to stay Sajjan’s trial
New Delhi, July 3
Sajjan Kumar The Delhi High Court has refused to stay trial of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Justice Pratibha Rani, however, restrained the trial court from delivering its judgment till July 27 when Kumar’s petition in the court would be taken up for hearing again. Kumar has challenged the trial court’s refusal to let him use a riot victim’s statements to various judicial commissions to defend himself.

The objections raised to UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee’s nomination by opposition-backed nominee PA Sangma were overruled today, thus setting the stage for a direct contest between the two in the July 19 election.

High-security number plates for 40 lakh vehicles in Haryana 
Chandigarh, July 3
With the Haryana Government finalising the rates for the high-security registration plates (HSRPs), the process to install new registration plates on over 40 lakh vehicles in the state has been initiated. The HSRP system, aimed at checking theft of vehicles and preventing their misuse for committing crimes, would be introduced for new vehicles in the first phase.
