6 doctors booked for negligence after liver donor dies

Six doctors of the multi-super specialty Medanta Medicity hospital here have been booked for causing the death of a liver part-donor due to negligence.
As per the police complaint, Sunil Bedi, 40, a trader from Delhi’s Rohini area, was admitted in the hospital for liver surgery. Doctors reportedly told him and his family that he needed a 30 per cent liver transplant.
The CASE

l Delhi trader Sunil Bedi needed a liver transplant and his brother-in-law Rohit Chaddha agreed to donate part of his liver

l The 40-year-old part-donor was operated upon on May 7 and died three weeks later

l His relative, Suman, alleged doctors transplanted 69% of his liver to Bedi, resulting in his death on May 30

Bedi's 40-year-old brother-in-law Rohit Chaddha agreed to donate a part of his liver to him. The surgery was performed on May 7 and the donor died in hospital on May 30.

Chaddha’s relative Suman said he died due to the serious negligence of the doctors and alleged that doctors transplanted 69 per cent of his liver to Bedi. The FIR names Dr AS Suhen, Dr Nain, Dr Ravi Mohan, Dr Sanjay, Dr Sanjeev Sehgal and Dr Bhalla. They have been booked under Section 304-A (causing death due to negligence) and some other Sections of the IPC. No arrests had been made till late evening. Medanta Medicity authorities were not available for comment.
