The Presidential election today brought to fore fissures within the Right and Left-led alliances in the country with the BJP endorsing the candidature of former Lok Sabha speaker Purno A. Sangma against Pranab Mukherjee, the United Progressive Alliance-sponsored candidate who picked up support from the JD(U) and two - Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Forward Block - of the four Left parties.

Cong legislators ask ruling alliance to clear stand on twin issues of memorial, Rajoana
Chandigarh, June 21
The Punjab Congress today forced two adjournments in the Assembly, asking the ruling SAD-BJP combine to clarify its stand on the issue of raising a memorial for those killed in Operation Bluestar in 1984 and ‘honouring’ ex-CM Beant Singh’s assassin Balwant Singh Rajoana.

The Ministry of HRD today came under renewed pressure from the IIT faculty to advance its proposed common engineering entrance test (CET) beyond 2013, with the Senate of the IIT-Delhi rejecting the idea and resolving to conduct its own test next year.
