Petrol prices cut by Rs 2 per litre

Faced with public outcry, petrol prices were today cut by Rs 2.02 per litre in a partial rollback of the Rs 7.54-a-litre hike — the steepest ever — announced more than a week ago.

NRI drug ring busted in Punjab; 4 held 
Party drugs worth Rs 200 cr seized
Jalandhar, June 2
Synthetic drugs have starting making inroads into Punjab. The state police on Saturday claimed to have busted a drug ring involving NRIs and highly qualified traffickers and seized contraband worth Rs 200 crore. Of the seven-member gang, four are in the police net. Over 34 kg Methamphetamine and 19 kg Ephedrine, also known as “Ice” or “rave party drug,” have been recovered from the accused.

Last year's finalists Francesca Schiavone and Li Na headed in opposite directions at the French Open on Saturday when the Italian was knocked out in the third round and the Chinese fought her way through to the last 16 with a tough win. Schiavone, the Roland Garros winner in 2010 and runner-up to Li last year, was unlucky to run into battling American Varvara Lepchenko for the second time in a month.

The stand-off between New Delhi and Beijing over shipping and maritime rights in the South China sea took a new turn today when Defence Minister AK Antony said “large parts of the common seas cannot be declared exclusive to any one country or group.”
