Haryana revises property tax assessment formula Re 1 per sq yard would be imposed as property tax on residential properties up to 250 sq yard
Chandigarh, June 1 Briefing newsmen after the Cabinet meeting here, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said a nominal amount of Re 1 per sq yard would be imposed as property tax on residential properties up to 250 sq yard. A whopping 83 per cent of residential properties in the state fall in this category. Besides this token amount, 100 per cent rebate would be given to religious properties (only on real religious structures), orphanages, alms houses, municipal buildings, cremation and burial grounds, all residential buildings up to 250 sq yard owned by ex-servicemen or families of deceased soldiers and ex-central paramilitary forces personnel provided they do not have any other residential house in Haryana and are residing in it themselves and have not let out any portion of the house. However, the condition of letting out of the house shall not apply to those who are getting pension of Rs 1,275 per month or less. All residential buildings owned by war widows would also be exempt from property tax, provided they do not have any other residential house in Haryana and are residing in it and have not let out any portion of the house. Non-RCC construction and properties more than 25 years old would get 25 per cent rebate in the tax. In case of self-occupied properties larger than 250 sq yard, 50 per cent concession would be given. There would be no property tax on a plot of one acre and above if used for agriculture or horticulture purposes. Hooda denied that the property tax was being imposed to ensure flow of grants from the
Centre.
