Dearth of docs at homoeopathic dispensaries
Bathinda, May 15 Sources said out of total 17 posts of the homoeopathic medical officer in the government dispensaries and the NRHM dispensaries, nine had been lying vacant, putting an adverse affect on the functioning of the dispensaries. In the absence of homoeopathic medical officers, the pharmacists had been virtually running the dispensaries, they added. As per information, there are seven government homoeopathic dispensaries, situated at Bathinda, Goniana, Bhokhra, Talwandi Sabo, Phul, Jalal and Ghanda Banna in the district, of which the posts of homoeopathic medical officer at Phul, Jalal and Ghanda Banna villages have been lying vacant. The posts at Phul and Jalal have been lying vacant for the past about one year each while the post at Ghanda Banna dispensary is vacant for the past more than two years. All the seven government homoeopathic dispensaries have pharmacists. However, three dispensaries (where posts of the doctor are vacant) are being run by the pharmacists for four days while during remaining two days homoeopathic medical officers from other dispensaries examined the patients there. Out of 10 posts of homoeopathic medical officer in the NRHM’s homoeopathic dispensaries, six have been lying vacant at Mehraj, Bhagta, Nathana, Ballianwali, Sangat and Maur in the district. In the Bhagta and Ballianwali dispensaries, there is reportedly no staff, including pharmacists, available, due to which these dispensaries are virtually non-functional. It is learnt that in the government homoeopathic dispensaries there is a great shortage of small empty vials for supplying the medicines to the patients as the empty vials have not been supplied to the dispensaries by the government for the past couple of years. Due to this, the doctors have been arranging these empty vials either by procuring the same from the donors or by paying from their own pockets. |

145 special trainers released from jail
Bathinda, May 15 Jail authorities said the 77 female and 68 male special trainers have been released after eight days. The teachers were arrested from outside the residence of Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka and other places in Rampura where they were protesting against the non-acceptance of their long-pending demands. The teachers were on hunger strike in the jail for the last three days. While three female teachers were released on bail, no other teacher applied for bail. The SDM, Rampura, had ordered the release of all the teachers lodged in jail. Most of the teachers lodged in the jail were from Amritsar and Tarn Taran. It is learnt that the teachers were released after the intervention of Education Minister Sikandar Singh Maluka. Jasvir Kaur, one of the leaders of the teachers’ union, said the members of their union had to intensify their stir in view of the U-turn by the state government over the issue of their re-instatement. The union members alleged that despite the orders of release reaching on time, the jail authorities took a long time to release them. |
