Youth ‘consumes’ poison, dies

Jalandhar April 25
A 20-year-old youth mistakenly consumed a poison at his resident at Nalha village in Lambra last night. He was admitted to a hospital, where he died this morning.

The deceased, Ashok Kumar, son of Amarjit Ram, was a tanner. His father in a statement to the police said his son had been ill for the past several months and undergoing treatment for the same.

“Last night, his son was alone in his room and instead of taking medicine, he consumed some poisonous substance. After hearing his shrieks, I went to his room and found him unconscious. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and a few hours later, he breathed his last,” his father said.

The police did not sense any foul play in the incident and initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.— OC
