7-year term for robbers
: A local court today awarded seven-year imprisonment to Arun and his brother Jagpal in a robbery case. The incident took place in July, 2010. They had robbed a person in the Bapu Dham Colony. They were later arrested. Arun and Jagpal had robbed a person of Rs 2,100 and a mobile phone by threatening him at knife-point.

RLA auction on April 24: The Chandigarh Licensing and Registration Authority (RLA) will hold the auction for special numbers in the CH01AM series on April 24. It has received 816 applications for 162 numbers so far. 

Cricket cup from April 28: The Indian socio-economic culture, GP Sourcing Private Limited, will organise a Global Pueblo Cricket Cup for the first time in the city. The tournament will start from April 28. It will be played in a league-cum-knock out basis and the winning team will be represented with cash prize and trophies.

1 betting agent arrested
: The police has claimed to have arrested a betting agent here today. The accused has been identified as Vijay, alias Kala, a resident of Khark Mangoli. Vijay was allegedly involved in satta khaiwali at a public place in Kharag Mangoli, said the police. A sum of Rs 1,480 has been recovered from the accused at the spot.

Another body found floating in Naini lake
Another body was found in the Naini Lake in Nainital on Saturday morning. This was the third body found floating in the lake in the last one week. The deceased is yet to be identified. Police sources said the body was in a highly decomposed state. It is being assumed that the man may have died several months ago and his body had remained trapped in weeds and plants under the water. He seems to be in his mid-thirties. Further investigation is on in the case.

Woman found dead, parents allege murder
A woman was found hanging in Papoli village of the Bhanoli area of Almora district on Friday. Leela Devi, 20, was found hanging with a rope at her house. Her parents have accused Leela’s in-laws of harassing her for bringing insufficient dowry. They said their daughter had been murdered and her death was being made to look like a suicide. The police has started investigation.

2 women robbed of jewellery in Nainital
Two women were robbed of gold jewellery in two incidents in the remote Dhari area of Nainital district. In both cases two motorcycle-borne youths with their faces covered snatched gold jewellery worn by the women. The incidents have been reported to the revenue police, which is trying to nab the accused.

Buffalo, 7 goats die of unknown disease
A buffalo and seven goats have reportedly died of an unknown disease at Dunglapatli village in Bageshwar district. The death of animals has spread panic among the villagers, who have even stopped consuming milk products. The Animal Husbandry Department has rushed a team of officials to the village to carry out verification and help the villagers take preventive steps to check the death of animals.

Man’s body found in US Nagar
The body of a man was recovered from the roadside in the Nanakmatta area of Udham Singh Nagar. Passersby reportedly saw the body lying by the roadside in the Pratappur area of the town. They informed the police, which took the body in its custody. The deceased is said to be about 45 years of age and the police is trying to identify him.
