Mumbai, March 24
At least seven people were injured in an explosion on board a chemical tanker, Royal Diamond 7, docked at the Mumbai harbour today, according to police.

All those injured were rushed to St George Hospital, police said.

The incident took place when the victims were on board the ship to supervise unloading of 2,000 tonnes of Toluene imported by Aegis Chemicals Ltd.

This is the second incident involving the vessel registered at the Marshal’s Island in a week’s time, according to officials of the Mumbai Port Trust. On March 17, a minor fire was reported on board the vessel. It was put out.

According to sources, the vessel had completed unloading of the cargo and was in the process of sailing out of the Mumbai harbour when today’s explosion occurred.

The Director General of Shipping has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
