After tracing the mobile phone’s location, the main accused Sonu was arrested, he said. During interrogation, Sonu told the police that he was in love with a Kartarpur-based girl and was to marry her, but Pritam, who was handling the bus passes work, started sending love signals to the girl, ADCP Sharma said. “On coming to know about the intention of Pritam regarding my girlfriend, I hacked him to death,” the accused told the police. He said Pritam often asked girls to come to his official residence for renewing their monthly bus passes. On some occasions, pritam even behaved indecently with his girlfriend and even tried to abuse her physically when she went to renew her bus pass at his residence. Basti Peer Daad road provides bumpy, filthy ride to commuters
Jalandhar, March 4 Residents of the locality alleged that dirty water remained on the road due to lack of proper drainage system. During rains, the road became water pools. Some of the residents alleged that the councillor of the ward had done nothing for the locality. Pritam Singh of the locality rues that every day one or two persons sustain injuries, “Two-wheeler riders are the worst suffers as their motorbikes often skid on the slush-filled road” he alleged. It seemed that the authorities had kept their eyes shut over the unsanitary state of the locality, he said. Ravinder Singh, shopkeeper in the locality, said the road from Ganda Nullah to Basti Mithu had been crying for repair for the past more than three years. “What to talk of re-laying of the road, the authorities have not even done its repair work or patch work in the past several months. During rains, the road often turns into a pool and I face much difficulty even to reach my shop. The authorities should lay a sewerage system in the locality,” he said. When asked why the road had not been re-layed or repaired for the past several years, ward councillor Kirpal Singh Bhatti said, “Three years ago, the road was re-layed and in the meantime, several repairs or patch works were also done.” He, while terming the residents of the locality responsible for the road’s bad plight, said “Not I, in fact the residents are solely responsible for its bad plight as they often spread dirty water on the road, which lead to development of potholes.” He said after the poll code of conduct came to an end, repair work of the road would be initiated. |

Senior citizen alleges bias
Jalandhar, March 4 This elderly man, who came first in the senior citizen category, was given a rough deal, as despite coming first in the marathon, he had to approach the organisers to prove that he had won the race. Tarsem was livid over the fact that despite bagging the first position in the marathon he was not given any deserving honour. “I approached the organisers to convince them that I had won it. Further, I had to show my record of winning the previous CT Half Marathon and other such races to them,” he said. While the other winners in the male and female categories were given huge cash awards of Rs 21,000, Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,100, but he was handed over a memento, certificate and a gift. “This is sheer bias. If they can give huge cash awards to other winners then why not a special award for
the senior citizen category too?” he questioned. “Even during the last marathon, the organisers of CT institute had missed out on my name. At that time also I had to inform them. This time I will take up the matter with the CT authorities to rectify the mistake. Marathon is an event to promote sportsmanship, but such an }attitude mars the very meaning of the marathon,” he said. An ex-serviceman, he
is a resident of the the Rail Vihar locality and had also won the previous CT Half Marathon. After retirement, he joined the Rail Coach
Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, as Senior Civil Defence Inspector. He retired from the RCF in 2010. A complete fitness freak, he has been a winner
of many such races held at different parts of the city. In 2011, Tarsem had won a mini-marathon of 3 km in
the age group of 60 to 70 years held under the aegis of the Senior Citizens Club at Kapurthala. Official speak We have taken notice of the issue and next time we would definitely fix a good amount for the senior citizens in the half marathon. The CT group had honoured Tarsem for bagging the first position in the marathon.~ Gaurav Khanna, PRO, CT Group of Institutions |
