The Election Commission today issued a show-cause notice to Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma asking him to
Beni Prasad Verma: explain his statement on Muslim sub-quota by Monday evening. Verma is the second Cabinet minister of the UPA government to get such a notice.
Beni Prasad Verma: The notice came after the EC went through the video recording of the election rally where Beni is said to have raked up the quota issue.

Charges framed against ex-minister’s son
Patiala, February 18
Charges in the Moga sex scandal were framed against Barjinder Singh, son of former Punjab Minister Tota Singh, four police officers and four others here today. During the hearing in the court of Special Judge (CBI), Patiala, Balbir Singh, the court gave the nod for the framing of the charges against all the accused. The next date of hearing is March 30.

BARC: Uranium cause of Malwa water contamination 
Faridkot, February 18
The use of phosphate fertilisers — having high concentration of uranium (70-100 ppm) — could be a reason for groundwater contamination in Punjab, especially the Malwa region, says a report prepared by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).The BARC’s findings were submitted on February 15 after the Punjab and Haryana HC sent a questionnaire to the premier atomic research centre two weeks ago, asking if the agrochemical processes were responsible for uranium toxicity in Punjab waters.
