Three years after 26/11, India to get crack agency to tackle terror
National Counter Terrorism Centre to be operational from March 1
New Delhi, February 6
More than three years after it was proposed, India finally has a National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) — an overarching counter-terrorism agency with immense powers to tackle terrorism. It has been mandated to carry out arrests, seize terror-related property and cash, requisition documents, calls records and financial transactions of suspected persons from all other agencies.

Bills worth Rs 1600 cr pending as Punjab’s fiscal woes worsen
Chandigarh, February 6
Punjab is facing a difficult fiscal situation. The state expenditure has outpaced the state revenue. Sources say bills worth Rs 1,600 crore have been lying pending with the state treasury. Only the urgent payments are being made while other bills are being kept pending, they say.

Even as Uninor, the joint venture telecom firm between Norwegian telecom company Telenor and Unitech, today launched diplomatic efforts to secure its investments in India after the Supreme Court last week cancelled 122 telecom licences issued by former Telecom Minister A Raja, the startup telecom operator said that it will participate in 2G spectrum auction.

Yuvi likely to resume training in May

Yuvraj Singh's cancer is curable and the hard-hitting Indian batsman is likely to be back in training in May, a New Delhi oncologist said on Monday. The 30-year-old was told last year that he had a golf ball-sized non-malignant tumour, but that diagnosis was changed at the weekend to a condition called "mediastinal seminoma".

Pak can’t afford war over Kashmir: Gilani
Islamabad, February 6
Acknowledging that Pakistan “cannot afford wars” in the 21st century, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the Kashmir issue would have to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Four wars have already been fought on the Kashmir issue and the region still “was a flashpoint”, but in the 21st century “we cannot afford wars”, Gilani said.
