Double murder shocks Chandigarh
Teenaged siblings found stabbed
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, December 16
Two teenaged siblings — a 17-year-old girl and her 15-year-old brother — were found stabbed to death at their Sector 41 home here this afternoon.

The double murder, which sent shock waves in the city, occurred at the second floor accommodation number 171/2, in the Chandigarh Housing Board flats in the sector.

The police ruled out robbery and said the murder appeared to be the work of someone known to the two.

The murder came to light at 3 pm when Malti, mother of the two teenagers, returned home. She is working as a teacher in a government school in Sector 17 of Panchkula.

The door to their house was open and Malti saw the blood-spattered body of her daughter Kavita lying in a pool of blood on the bed. She had stab injury marks on her neck and other parts of the body.

Neighbours gathered on hearing Malti’s screams and called the police. She tried contacting her son Gorank Sahoo alias Goru on the phone and it was apparently switched off.

The police reached the spot at 3.30 pm and found the mutilated body of Gorank lying in a pool of blood on the bed on the upper floor.

The siblings’ father Umesh Kumar is working as a JBT teacher in a government school in Mewat.

Kavita was a Class XII student of Guru Nanak Public School in Sector 36 while Gorank was studying in Class X in Government School in Sector 37. Both did not go to school today as they were preparing for their exams.

A team of CFSL experts from Sector 36 examined the spot. A murder case has been registered.
