Flesh trade racket busted

Ludhiana, December 16
The three Nepalese women, aged between 22 and 25 years of age, who were arrested for their alleged involvement in flesh trade, appear to have no remorse. Two of them are married and have children while the third one is unmarried.

Employees of Punjab Roadways went on a strike today, causing inconvenience to passengers who were stranded for hours outside Shaheed Sukhdev Inter-State Bus Terminal.
The Punjab Education Department started Quality Improve in mathematics project to improve the quality of education. Under the instruction of B Purushartha, director, General School Education, Punjab, and Nirmal Kaur, assistant state project director (ASPD) of math cell, a five day seminar of mathematics was conducted at GSSS, Gobind Nagar.

A slew of projects remain incomplete
Ludhiana, December 16
Even as Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal would be in the city tomorrow to inaugurate projects, there are several development projects which are hanging fire for years. These projects include the Lakkar Bridge project; indoor stadium on Pakhowal Road; and six-laning of the National Highway-I. The Deputy CM would inaugurate two lanes of the four-laned expressway project along the Sidhwan Canal (from Ferozepur Road to Doraha), and the city bus service project, besides laying the foundation stone of the excise and taxation building at the mini secretariat here.

Flight cancelled due to poor visibility
Ludhiana, December 16
The lone flight operating between Ludhiana and Delhi was cancelled at the last minute due to poor visibility today. Air India officials said till 11.30 am, the visibility was 1.5 km while the required visibility was 5 km.

Integrated fish-cum-duck farming unit developed at GADVASU

College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has developed a low input eco-friendly integrated fish-cum-duck farming unit for on farm testing and demonstration.

Cinema halls unfit to counter fire incidents

Despite several incidents of fire in the cinema halls, the cinema halls in the city are ill-prepared to counter fire. Some of these have outdated or inadequate fire equipment, other halls have no preparations at all.

Inauguration of under-pass put off
Construction work going on in full swing at pedestrian under-pass opposite theMini Secretariat in Ludhiana. Ludhiana, December 16
The inauguration of Pedestrian Under Pass (PUP) opposite Mini Secretariat, here, has been postponed for a week as the project is still not complete. Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal was keen on inaugurating this project tomorrow, but due to delay in the completion of the project, the inauguration has been postponed. Sources in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation say that there were orders from the state government that the PUP project should be ready by December 17, so that Sukhbir Singh Badal could inaugurate it in the city.

Public places don’t have fire-fighting equipment at Jagraon

It seems that the operators and owners of various public places such as marriage palaces, hospitals, cinema halls, commercial buildings etc have learnt no lesson from the tragic fire incident at a hospital in Kolkata in which many people lost their lives.

1,600-litre kerosene seized, man held
Ludhiana, December 16
The Salemtabri police has arrested Sunny Kumra, a resident of Shivpuri, Sekhewal, for selling kerosene oil in the black market. About 1,600 litres of kerosene has been recovered from his home and a case under Section 7 of the Essential Commodity Act has been registered against the accused.

Three senior MC officials transferred

Due to the guidelines of the Election Commission in view of the upcoming state Assembly elections, three senior officials of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) have been transferred from the city. These officials include MC Additional Commissioner BK Gupta, Municipal Town Planner (MTP) Hemant Batra and Dr Charanjit Uppal.
