Murder most foul
Man pushes mother into canal for Rs 6 lakh

Samrala, October 13
The greed for Rs 6 lakh drove a man and his two sons to kill his 65-year-old mother, Surjit Kaur, a resident of Khattran village after pushing her into the Bhakra canal on Dasehra day. The heinous crime came to light when police fished out her body from the canal yesterday.

Cloth merchant arrested for minor’s rape
Ludhiana, October 13
The three- year- old girl, who was raped yesterday in her school, had been overpowered by a 24-year-old cloth merchant in the school’s rest room. This shocking revelation was made by the police following the arrest of the accused. A resident of Shivaji Nagar, the accused, identified as Honey Kapoor, was arrested today.

The state government may have "launched" the facility yesterday on registration certificates (RCs) of vehicles to be prepared by the dealers themselves, but the particular software to be installed with the dealers is yet to be connected with the main server at Chandigarh. A 25-year-old married woman caught fire under mysterious circumstances at her house located in the Agwar Khuaja Baju area here yesterday. Following this incident, the victim was admitted to the civil hospital where she succumbed to burn injuries today morning.

Car catches fire on Mall road

A white coloured I-10 car (PB 10 CM 4791) caught fire near Red Cross Bhawan, Mall Road, this afternoon. Nobody was inside the car when this incident took place. Fire brigade officials said the car, which was parked on the roadside, had got badly damaged by the time fire tenders could the spot.

I-T dept conducts raid on three units
Ludhiana, October 13
Four teams comprising eight to 10 members each from the Income Tax department, are conducting surveys on three major forging and furnace units since 11.30 am today. The surveys are being conducted on Sunder Forging, Arora Alloys Private Limited and Khuran Steels on their premises in Focal Point and the Chandigarh road, respectively.

Gold worth Rs 20 lakh seized, woman held

Jaspal Kaur (35) was arrested from her residence at Bhamiyan village during a raid conducted the police last night. Stolen gold worth Rs 20 lakh was recovered from her house. While the main accused, Harpreet Bittu, husband of Jaspal Kaur, is absconding.

Two killed, three injured in mishap near Khanna
