Supervisor of Private security agency attacked in office
Jalandhar, September 16 The incident came to light this morning when Managing Director of the agency Ram Pal reached the office, located on the second floor of a building, and found the office smeared with blood. He found the table, chair, wall and floor of the supervisor’s cabin splattered with blood and supervisor Deepak Singh lying in a pool of blood beneath the table. Ram Pal immediately informed the police. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City-I) R.K. Sharma and other area officers reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The police rushed Deepak Singh to the Civil Hospital. Doctors attending on Deepak revealed that his condition was critical, but stable. Ram Pal revealed that Deepak, a resident of Adarsh Nagar area, had been working with the agency for the last over four years and had been assigning duties to security guards deployed in different organisations, besides maintaining their leave and salary records. The SHO, Baradari police station, Onkar Singh, revealed that the police was unable to record Deepak’s statement as he was unconscious. The police had initiated investigations on the complaint of Ram Pal. The police had seized three pieces of a broken hockey stick from the crime scene. |
Examination hall scuffle turns into serious clash
Jalandhar, September 16 Interestingly, it all started due to a row over cheating. Talking to The Tribune, Manish said, “Keshav and I were cheating during the exam today and our teacher was stopping us. Monu, who was seated in the same room, intervened and told us to stop cheating. He got abusive and slapped me, following which I slapped him back him and a fight ensued. Monu went out of the school a while later he brought in a group of 15
to 20 boys armed with iron rods and baseball bats.” “We were beaten with rods and they kicked us. They hit a desk on Keshav’s head,” Manish alleged. Karanveer (Keshav’s brother) and other friends of the duo joined in after the clash worsened. A livid Husan Lal, father of Keshav and Karanveer, said, “Manish has stiff shoulders and Keshav is suffering from a stiff backbone and shoulders.” “Karanveer’s nose was punched many times by those students and it has been bleeding profusely and he has received injuries on his backbone, elbows and head” he added. “The youngsters that Monu brought in from outside, including his brothers, were not even students of the school. We are surprised at how the school authorities could allow that,” Husan Lal questioned. Friends of the trio also say that while the altercation began in the examination hall, the teacher in charge moved out after the scuffle. They said even as the authorities locked the front door, Monu and his gang entered the premises through the principal’s office. “The school authorities also locked up two of the boys on our side, who could have stopped us from being beaten.” They also said no one from the other gang got hurt. The SHO, police station number 6, Kewal Krishan, while talking to The Tribune said, “An MLR (medico-legal report) has been obtained on the issue from the hospital and Meanwhile, sources say the victims’ parents also went to meet the school authorities to ask then what action they are taking on the issue. The school principal, Prabhjot, refused to comment on the issue citing bad health as a reason. |
Tyre worth lakhs of rupees stolen from godown
Jalandhar, September 16 The armed robbers came in a truck, parked it in front of the godown and loaded the tyres, tubes and other accessories on it fearlessly. It took almost two hours for the robbers to load the stolen goods on the vehicle. The robbers entered the godown after breaking opening the locks of the main gate. They used a gas-cutter to cut the locks of the main shutter. Shaguni, the guard, revealed that he heard a loud sound and rushed towards the godown. As he raised an alarm, two armed robbers caught him and took him to the adjacent workshop (where bodies of vehicles are fabricated) and locked him inside a vehicle parked there, while the others (nearly 10 in number) loaded the stolen goods on the truck. Shaguni revealed that he managed to come out of the vehicle when the robbers left. He then informed the managers of the company, M.K. Triphati and Ajay Goel, who called the police. The ADCP (City-I), R.K. Sharma, and his team visited the spot and a team of forensic experts and a dog squad were pressed into service. Meanwhile, the police has registered a case under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC on the complaint of the guard. |
Pending work on Domoria overbridge to begin in a week
Jalandhar, September 16 Branch officials said the contractors have urged the Railways to ensure blocking of the Jalandhar-Amritsar track for eight hours in continuity to get the work done in one strethc, the possibility of which they feel is remote. “If the permission for four hours is granted, the contractor claims that he would need two to three days for the job,” they add. The Railways had finalised a bid of Rs 2 crore to launch the pre-fabricated structures last month. The work of the span portion is likely to get over in a month’s time. The bridge is under-construction since over a decade. |
Residents cut down consumption of milk
Jalandhar, September 16 As a result, the residents claim that they have to cut down consumption of milk or take loose milk from dairy owners. Dr S.K. Mittal, Manager (Procurement), Milkfed, said, “The production of milk has fallen owing to heat stress in the cattle and delay in calving. Most dairy owners from whom we procure milk have crossbred cattle, which are less resistant to heat. The calving, too, is not expected before October and November.” He added that while the current procurement at the Jalandhar Milk Plant was close to 64,000 litres a day, the demand had jumped to over 1 lakh litres per day. The shortfall was being compensated by getting nearly 25,000 litres a day from the Ferozepur plant, which had milk in surplus. O.D. Sharma, in charge, marketing, Verka, said he expected the situation to normalise by next week. “Since we cannot compromise on quality, we have had to face more problems.” He added that a cut was also being imposed on the production of milk byproducts these days. Asked about any price rise in the offing, he said, “There are no such plans as of now. If at all there will be any price escalation at a later stage, it will not be for taking advantage of shortage of milk.” On the issue of complaint from residents on mixing of skimmed milk these days, Sharma said, “It is true that we are recombining white milk and reconstituting skimmed milk that we have managed to save during high production winter days. But the reconstitution is only for 4 to 5 per cent of the total volume. We have even been ensuring that there is homogenising of the milk so that there is no change in the taste or odour.” |
Split wide open in city unit of BJP
Jalandhar, September 16 While Kalia and his supporters have been opposing the appointment, the group led by Mayor Rakesh Rathour has been justifying it. Almost all councillors, including Majinder Singh Chatha, Gurmit Chand, Gurmail Singh and Kuldip Singh Oberoi, who attended the press conference today to oppose the move, represent the wards falling in Kalia’s Jalandhar Central constituency. The state secretary of the BJP, Mahendru, produced documents claiming that a case against Ved Vyas in forgery of TS1 form relating to a property on Old GT Road was still pending in the court of CJM Hareet Kaur. The complainant in the case, Sudarshan Kainth, who too attended the press meet, said that the next date of hearing in the case was September 23. “An FIR in the case had been registered on May 23, 2006 in police station division number 4”, said Mahendru. He further produced documents as per which the then MC Commissioner Sarojini Gautam Sharda had inquired into the matter and ordered that action should be taken against the guilty officer. Asked as to who is to be blamed for the appointment of Vyas, Mahendru did not take any names. He, however, said that the resolution in this regard had been passed in the MC House on June 17. When he was asked as to why was the resolution allowed to be passed then, he replied, “We were not then aware of the situation and the item was not in the agenda but was added later on”. About the delay, he said, “We needed time to collect proofs”. The collision between the two groups further came to the fore when Mahendru said that he had not even taken up the matter with the Mayor as yet and had straight away come to the media. He then even took out today’s edition of Jalandhar Tribune and claimed that the officer needs to apologise for giving statements against the councillor and the legislator over the incident of wall collapse. The councillors gave Vyas a deadline till Monday, failing which they said that they would stage a dharna in front of his office. “What is the duty of officers if the councillor and legislator have to be responsible for everything?” they asked. Onkar Nath Mehta, president of the society of Bashirpura, claimed that the matter had been brought to the notice of the administration on a number of occasions. The Mayor, on the other hand, said that he would get the facts against Ved Vyas checked up. He said that the councillors should have first come to him rather than going directly to the Press. “Had I not been able to satisfy them, they should have met the top brass in the party, since we represent the same party,” he said adding that no issue is passed in the House without a discussion and a resolution passed by the majority. Ved Vyas could not be contacted as his cell phone was switched off. |
