Punjab got steady supply of substandard fertilisers: CAG
New Delhi, August 22
Thousands of tonnes of various types of substandard fertilisers were sold in Punjab - India’s food bowl - in recent years. By the time “stop sale” orders were issued - in some cases, a year later - these proved meaningless as by that time the dealers had already sold the whole stock. Unsuspecting farmers used those “non-standard” fertilisers, which affected their crops.

In the fourth such case, an American survivor of the 2008 Mumbai attacks has filed a lawsuit against ISI officials, including its chief Ahmed Shuja Pasha, along with leading LeT figures, charging the Pakistani spy agency of being involved in the planning and execution of the terror strike.

Delhi rekindles interest in Iran gas project
New Delhi, August 22
Notwithstanding American pressure, New Delhi is showing renewed interest in the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline. Official sources denied that India was reluctant to pursue the ambitious IPI project and was now keen on an early fruition of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

Govt sets fresh deadline for delivery of Scorpene subs
Faced with a reality of an ageing fleet of submarines, India has set a tight schedule for the state-owned shipyard Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) for the delivery of six diesel-electric Scorpene submarines to the Indian Navy. MDL has been asked to deliver one submarine every six months starting August 2015. All the six have to be commissioned by September 2018.

Ash-spewing Bathinda thermal plant to be shut down

The announcement by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on the shutting down of the ash-spilling 440 MW thermal power station of Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) in the heart of the town here has come as music to the ears of local residents who were suffering because of the high level of pollution caused by the plant.
