The convoy of Gurdeep Singh Gosha, president of Youth Akali Dal, led to a traffic jam on roads in Ludhiana A traffic jam was witnessed on city roads, including Ferozepur road, today when Gurdeep Singh Gosha, president, Youth Akali Dal, Delhi, and joint candidate of Panthak groups for the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee elections, came to file his nomination at the Mini Secretariat.

Thirty-year-old Pema, who is suffering from tuberculosis, needs financial help. Recently, she was operated upon at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. Her urinary bladder, which was small in size, could not store urine. Pema’s kidneys have also stopped working due to tuberculosis.

Septuagenarian held with 1,400 gm of opium
Mandi Ahmedgarh, August 10
The Dehlon police has nabbed a septuagenarian, who had been allegedly supplying drugs to youths in the town. It has recovered 1,400 gm opium from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohinder Singh of Patti Sameeria at Kilaraipur village in Ludhiana district. The accused was nabbed near railway crossing yesterday. Earlier, the Sirhind police had nabbed the accused for smuggling poppy husk. He had brought the consignment from Rajasthan. — OC

A beaming Sukhan Chahal City lad becomes Canadian junior wrestling champ
Ludhiana, August 10
An NRI teenager has made the city proud by winning the 2011 Canadian national freestyle wrestling championship in the 50 kg category. Sukhan Chahal, 18, also holds the no 11 world ranking in this weight class, and had recently participated in the Junior World Wrestling Championship held in Romania.
