The cyber crime cell of the Chandigarh Police has recorded the first incident of business fraud using the Internet, in which a local businessman allegedly lost Rs 17.3 lakh to a fraud proposal received in response to his online advertisement for expansion of business. The cyber crime cell forwarded the complaint for legal opinion.

Lakhwinder Singh Man kills neighbour in fit of rage
Zirakpur, July 14
A man murdered his 34-year-old neighbour in a fit of rage over trivial issue at Ambedkar Colony in Dhakoli here this morning. After a minor altercation, the victim was pushed into a dry borewell. He sustained injuries on the head and face.

Drowning Victim’s kin allege foul play
Chandigarh, July 14
Even as the police has dubbed the demise of two youths — Ajay Lohlta and Nitin Mokta — in a swimming pool in Sector 23 on June 16 natural death by drowning, Lohlta’s family has claimed foul play as his cell phone contained a picture taken near the swimming pool on the day of the tragedy.

MC sets deadline for pending works

The municipal corporation has set the deadline for the completion of various pending works. A decision to this effect was taken at a ward committee meeting (ward Nos. 1 to 5), presided over by MC Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh with the area councillors and officials, here yesterday. They reviewed the status of the projects approved in their areas.

73 yet to pay licence fee

As many as 73 lawyers have not furnished the outstanding licence fee for chambers allotted to them in the district courts. The matter was brought to the notice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here today. As many as 94 lawyers were initially defaulters in the case.

Taking a suo moto notice of yesterday’s incident at New Public School (NPS-18), Sector 18, where a science teacher hurled a pencil at a Class VIII student hitting him in the eye, the UT education department will conduct a formal inquiry in the incident tomorrow.

Discipline committee finds student guilty
Chandigarh, July 14
Rubbishing the claims of Narinder Jeet Singh, a student, who accused a sculpture teacher, Sumangal Roy of thrashing him, the discipline committee of Government College of Art, Sector 10, has instead held him guilty of attacking the teacher. Barring him from the campus till further orders, the college authorities have summoned his parents before the final decision.

Kharar, July 14
Youth Akali Dal leader Jaspinder Singh Lali was attacked outside his office in Green Enclave at Daun village today.
While one person had received serious injuries, Lali suffered bruises. The attackers also fired two rounds of gunshots on Lali. As per the police, Manjit Singh and others were sitting at Lali’s office this afternoon when five persons barged into the office.
