Woman held for murder of sister-in-law
Hoshiarpur, June 13 Talking to mediapersons here this afternoon, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said the victim’s mother Jaswinder Kaur stated to the police that on June 11 she had gone to Mata Bhago Temple, Gilgizan, for cooking food on daily wages. Her son Sukhwinder Singh, who is a driver, had gone to Tanda for work. Amandeep Kaur and her daughter-in-law Madhubala were alone in the house. At about 10 am her neighbour Sunita telephoned her that something wrong had happened in her house. She immediately rushed to her house and found that her daughter, having marks of injuries on her breast and neck, was lying in a pool of blood. Her daughter-in-law Madhubala, daughter of Brij Lal of Fatehgarh Churian (Gurdaspur), told her that four persons came to the house. After a brief quarrel, they assaulted Amandeep Kaur with scissors and fled. On her statement an FIR under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC was registered at Dasuya police station. During investigation, Madhubala emerged as the prime suspect. During interrogation Madhubala said she and Sukhwinder Singh fell in love with each other and got married about 3 months ago. After marriage, Jaswinder Kaur and Amandeep Kaur used to taunt her on petty issues due to which strained relations developed between them. On June 11 when she and Amandeep Kaur were alone at the house, some dispute arose between them on household chores. Under a fit of rage she assaulted Amandeep Kaur with scissors, killing her on the spot. Later, she changed her dress and cooked up the story to save her skin. The police recovered scissors used in the crime from her. |

Murder case of oil tanker driver solved
Amritsar, June 13 According to information, Satinderjit Singh, a resident of Lakhowal and driver of the oil tanker, was found murdered on the Chougawan road. The police registered a case. Those arrested included Sukhwinder Singh of Rani ka Bagh, Tarun Kumar of Nehru Colony, Pardeep Singh of Rajasansi, Manwinder Singh and Balbir Singh of Bhikhiwind. The police authorities said the accused were already wanted in many cases of looting. The accused were remanded in a two-day police custody. |

Nephews booked for preparing fake will
Nawanshahr, June 13 A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by UK-based NRI Tejinder Kaur, widow of Gurwinder Singh, in which she had stated that she was married to Gurwinder Singh in 1992 and had two sons. They had been residing in the UK. In 1997, her husband was deported from the UK and since then he had been living in India with his nephew, Daljit Singh. Gurwinder Singh died on June 29 last year leaving behind her and two minor children as the only legal heirs and even the mutation of the properties left behind by her husband were entered and sanctioned in her name. Later, she got a copy of a civil suit filed by Daljit Singh and was shocked to know that her husband Gurwinder Singh had executed a will on June 26, last year, bequeathing his property in favour of Daljit Singh. Accusing Daljit Singh of preparing a forged and fabricated document to grab the property, the complainant also accused them of misappropriating 1,000 pounds sent by her for the treatment of her husband and 10 tolas of gold kept in the room of her husband. During investigation it came to light that Gurwinder Singh was got admitted to a private hospital on June 26, last year. He was brought to the hospital in a serious condition. The will was also shown executed by him on the same date. As, his condition was serious, hence, it was not possible for him to execute the will. Moreover, Daljit Singh and Gurdip Singh could not produce the original will executed by him and had been making claims on the basis of the photocopy of the will. The signatures of Gurwinder Singh could not be verified for want of the original copy of the will. On the basis of the inquiry report, the SSP, Narinder Bhargav asked the SHO (City) to register a case against them. |

DCC chief seeks action against SHO
Gurdaspur, June 13 Randhawa claimed that the lower-level police officials were acting at the behest of SAD leaders and registering false cases against Congress workers. He added that he had sought strict action against the SHO, Tibber, Parmod Kumar, for his involvement in booking Congress workers on frivolous grounds. Randhawa has been taking up the issue of Congress workers being rounded up by the local police at various platforms. Recently, at Kalanaur, 28 km from here, Randhawa had lambasted the Gurdaspur police for acting under the influence of middle-rung SAD leaders, who were harassing Congress workers. Later, speaking to mediapersons, Randhawa said Ravi Kiran Kahlon, son of Punjab Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon, was dictating terms to the police in Nirmal Singh Kahlon’s Assembly segment of Dera Baba Nanak. The Dera Baba Nanak Assembly segment is represented by Nirmal Singh Kahlon in the Vidhan Sabha, while at one time Randhawa had won from the same Assembly segment and both are considered to be political rivals. |

Delhi woman held for human trafficking
Amritsar, June 13 The police has registered a case under Sections 366-A, 371 and 372 of the IPC against Payal and rescued Uttar Pradesh girl Samreen from her clutches. According to information, after a tip-off the police laid a trap and struck a deal for procuring a girl. Payal allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh, but the deal was settled at Rs 1.70 lakh. As she handed over the girl and took the money, the police nabbed her. Investigations were under progress, said Harsandeep Singh, in charge, Lawrence Road police chowki. — TNS |

Plan to prepare fertiliser from garbage
Hoshiarpur, June 13 Disclosing this while addressing a gathering at Piplanwala here yesterday, Punjab Local Government and Industries Minister Tikshan Sud said under the plan the state had been divided into clusters and the garbage collection work would be done by the appointed agencies. After processing the garbage, germ-free fertiliser would be prepared, which would be 10 per cent of the total garbage and it would be used for agriculture purposes in the fields. The tenders were invited from agencies for the garbage collection and processing work, which was expected to be accepted very soon. After starting of the work, sanitary conditions would be improved, cities would present clean surroundings and the people would get hygienic environment. The work of laying 100 per cent sewerage work in the town was going on a war footing and the Piplanwala area, a suburban of the city, would soon be brought under it. Rs 12 crore were being spent in the area of the Municipal Council under the water supply scheme. The minister also laid the foundation stone of the reconstruction work of the Mall, Sutehri and Railway roads, which would be completed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. |

Businessman robbed of Rs 3.50 lakh
Hoshiarpur, June 13 Anil Kumar, along with his driver Mohammad Sadiq of Randhawa, was coming after collecting payments in his car. When they reached near Army Depot, Uchi Bassi, three youths on a motorcycle overtook their car and forced them to stop their vehicle. As soon as Mohammad Sadiq, who was driving the car, stopped the vehicle, they pulled him out and started beating him. When Anil Kumar came out of the car, they snatched the bag containing Rs 3.50 lakh and fled on their motorcycle under the cover of darkness. |
