‘Non-Cong leaders want to topple UPA Govt’
Bathinda, June 12 Bittu, who visited different places in this district in connection with mobilising youths to get them enrolled as members of the Indian Youth Congress
(IYC), said these non-Congress leaders had made Baba Ramdev launch a countrywide movement against corruption to destabilise the UPA Government. Talking to
TNS, Bittu said before raising the issue of corruption, Baba Ramdev must make it clear to the people that how he managed to collect more than Rs 1,100 crore in few years. Baba Ramdev must also make public the names of those who had been funding trusts floated by him, Bittu added. “No doubt, corruption is a serious issue in the country. But those who fight against it must have a clean record,” he said, adding that certain saints tried to befool people as they tried to implement the agenda of RSS under the garb of a campaign against corruption. He claimed that support extended to Baba Ramdev by CM Parkash Singh Badal was unfortunate. He should have asked Baba Ramdev about the source of his
(Ramdev) wealth before extending him any kind of support, Bittu said. The Youth Congress leader said youths were disappointed over the scams and cases of corruption that had been surfacing in the country. If corrective measures were not taken, the youths would one day start attacking leaders
publically, he said. Bittu said leadership of the IYC had taken a decision in its executive meeting held at Rishikesh a few days ago that if any Congress minister was found non-performing or indulging in corruption, the activists of the IYC would launch an agitation against them also. “The policies of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi regarding more representation to youths in every set up and to enable the country to get rid of social evils has been attracting a large number of youths into the party fold,” he claimed, adding that about 10 lakh youths would be enrolled as members of the IYC in Punjab alone. He disclosed that in the next Panchayat and municipal council elections, more than 40 per cent leaders and activists of the Punjab Youth Congress would be fielded as party candidates. |

Purchase agencies pack up, wheat sold below MSP
Abohar, June 12 Arhtia Association president Pramil Kalani and Bhartiya Kisan Union spokesman Rajwinder Singh confirmed that most government agencies had stopped purchase by the end of last month while the last one packed up on June 7. The state government had assured before the beginning of the harvesting session that wheat will be purchased till June 30. The government had also assured of making adequate arrangements for lifting and payment thereof, not later than 72 hours. But the BKU workers rued that the none of the assurances were fulfilled. The Arhtia Association too regretted that the government agencies were not able to arrange sufficient number of jute and poly bags to pack the purchased wheat. Finally, they resolved to pack up leaving the farmers in lurch. Sources in the market said the arrival of wheat in the sub-division has been recorded at 30 lakh quintals against 22 lakh quintals last year. More arrivals were due since the lately sown wheat was still to be transported to the main grain market here. While most of the state government agencies had made a payment of bonus at the rate Rs 50 per quintal, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was yet to make up its mind on making payment directly to the farmers or through the commission agents. A cross-section of the traders apprehend that wheat price quoted at Rs 1100 per quintal on Saturday may fall further in the next few days. |

CRPF man dies in Orissa, queries remain unanswered
Bathinda, June 12 Though KPS Mahi, Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bathinda and Iqbal Singh, in-charge, police post, Balluana, were present at the cremation, neither the CRPF personnel not the Punjab Police personnel gave him the guard of honour. However, the coffin, in which the body of Kuldeep Singh was brought to his village from Orissa, was wrapped in the Tricolour. Mahi said that the guard of honour to any martyr was always arranged by the police authorities. He said that guard of honour was not given to Kuldeep as it was not confirmed whether he had attained martyrdom while fighting Maoists in Orissa or died due to other circumstances. However, Iqbal Singh said that the in-charge of the CRPF party, which brought the dead body to Virk Kalan village from Orissa today, had informed him that Kuldeep Singh had died under mysterious circumstances and hence, no guard of honour would be given to him. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended over the village the moment the body of Kuldeep reached his house. Almost all the residents of Virk Kalan and its surrounding areas assembled at the house of Kuldeep. Later, these people attended his funeral and raised the slogan, 'Kuldeep Singh, Amar Rahe'. Kuldeep, who was recruited as a sepoy in the CRPF in 1991, was to retire next month. He had gone to Orissa on May 15 from his village after spending a month’s leave.
