Dehradun, May 17 “I owe my success to my teachers and parents who always guided me. I aspire to become a doctor like my parents,” said Rhea. Students of Welham Girls School have also performed exceptionally well in the ICSE examinations. Richa Neog from Assam has scored 97.2 per cent. She also loves to participate in extra-curricular activities in the school. The results of the Convent of Jesus and Mary are also 100 per cent. Shreshta Vohra has scored 96.8 per cent in Class X examinations along with many classmates scoring above 90 per cent marks. Shreshta’s parents are happy on their daughter’s achievement and owe its credit to Shreshta’s diligent efforts, dedication and devotion towards studies. “We always supported her. We are throwing a small party tonight to celebrate her accomplishment,” said her elated father. “I am on cloud nine today. Regular unit tests helped us revise our course and improve our mistakes,” said Bhuvanya of St Joseph’s Academy, who has scored 98 per cent in Class X examinations. Another topper from the same school, Avneeta Vijay, who has scored 98 per cent in the ICSE exams, said: “It feels good to be a topper. I worked very hard. So did my friends. Mussoorie, May 17 In the Class X exams of the ICSE, Brijat Badhu from Wynberg Allen School scored 95.75 per cent, Vencalunas 95.25 per cent, Shakun Naval 95.25 per cent, Tammana Vasu 94.25 per cent and Soumya Gupta 94.25 per cent. In Mussoorie Public School, Ratna Lekha Jain topped the humanities stream (Class XII ) with 89.8 per cent and Neha Thakur secured 87 per cent. In the ICSE results, Ankitda from St George’s College secured 84.6 per cent, Sachin Nanwani 94 per cent, Anuj Kapdia 93 per cent, Raunak Sinha 93 per cent and Shuarya Shubam 92 per cent. In Wynberg Allen School, Ganga Singhal scored 95.6 per cent, Malvika Chauhan 95.4 per cent, Mayuri Naithani 95 per cent, Pragyan 93 per cent and Shantanu 92.6 per cent. Saumya Vaish of Hampton Court School secured 94.6 per cent, Jaspreet Kaur 93.6 per cent and Abhishek Panwar 92 per cent. ICSE exams: Ashram girl Astha tops in Haridwar dist
Haridwar, May 17 Astha of Hari Harananad School in Kankhal scored 88.42 pc marks to top the merit list along with her classmates Ayushi Tandon (85.51 pc) and Sagar Sharma (84 pc) who got the third spot in the school rankings. In the Class XII examinations, Prateek Gupta secured the first position with 91.16 pc marks followed by Charu Aggarwal (88.33 pc) and Vivek Sharma (83.33 pc). In the commerce section, Shriya Narula (79 pc) and Inshita Sinha (75.5 pc) attained meritorious positions. Devoted to the social-religious cause, Astha, despite having interest in nuclear physics, want to commit to social causes only as she feels she owes to society and the school-cum-ashram brought her up. Talking to The Tribune, Astha said she studied one chapter for hours, understanding and memorising it and then never had a look at it till a review prior to examinations. “It’s all about concentration, focused approach and right guidance with which one can attain hold on any subject. Despite other interests and many career opportunities, I will devote myself to social causes as I owe a lot to my Guruji whose name I don’t want to reveal,” said a cool and confident Astha. Ayushi owes her success to her parents Alok and Shivani. She spent her maximum time on studies, though not at the cost of little entertainment. Seeking to pursue MBA, self-study is her success mantra, with specialised study approach as per syllabus requirements. Principal of Swami Hari Haranand School Hemlata Sharma attributed the success of the students to a disciplined and spiritual environment of the school, besides a focused approach to each student and regular interaction with their parents. |
Arun Mishra Case
Dehradun, May 17 Sources in the CBI said Elina has been issued summons to appear before the agency for questioning. However, she has been eluding the CBI for the past several days. If she doesn’t appear before the agency, then the CBI will launch raids to locate her. The officials in the agency said she could be a vital link to the case. The sources didn’t rule out direct involvement of Elina in the scam and said the possibility of booking her was also there. Mishra was sent to a 14-day judicial remand by a special CBI court on May 5 and will be produced in the court on Thursday. Other than abusing his official position to favour the Tronica city project authorities in Ghaziabad, he has been accused of stashing about Rs 350 crore in different bank accounts. He allegedly has around 70 bank accounts in his name and in the name of fictitious persons in different branches of banks in Dehradun, Haridwar and other places. The CBI had already filed an FIR against five employees of the Vidhan Sabha branch of Punjab National Bank, including its manager Manmohan Sharma, Deputy Manager Harish Kamboj and several unknown ones for letting Mishra deposit a huge amount of money in their bank. |

Minister donates Rs 3 lakh for revamp of school building
Dehradun, May 17 Impressed with the performance of RLEK-run schools, state Sports and Disaster Management Minister Khajan Das donated Rs 3 lakh for the revamp of a school building in Jhangeri village in Tehri Garhwal district at a function held on Monday. Addressing a gathering in the village, Khazan Das said: “The RLEK is not an NGO, but a mission.” On the demand to extend classes up to Class VIII, Padamshri Avdhash Kaushal, Chairperson of the RLEK, said it could be done provided another room was added to the school building. He also gave a grant of Rs 2 lakh for a playground. Kaushal said: “The land for the school was donated by villagers. All other infrastructural facilities like the boundary wall, road, electricity connection, poles and water connection were made available by Khajan Das, a local legislator. The parents of children studying in this school are members of the governing body of the school and they manage the day-to-day functioning of the school.” The primary school in the village is being run by the RLEK, the NGO working in the field of education for rural and marginalised communities for the past two decades. The RLEK is running 18 such schools in Uttarakhand. Jhangeri is the village situated in the Jaunpur block of Tehri Garhwal district. Speaking on the occasion, NS Rana, vice-chairman of the Sports Council, Uttarakhand, said “Many primary schools on which the government is spending a huge money are just waste and should be handed over to organisations like the RLEK.” |

Dena Bank won the toss and elected to field first. The UPCA team took the opportunity brilliantly and set a target of 287 runs in the allotted 40 overs, losing six wickets. Prashant Gupta (90 off 35) and Chetan Singh (76) were the main scorers. Ravikant Shukla (51) was the other batsman of UPCA to complete a half century. Varun Gupta of Dena Bank took three wickets. Dena Bank were all out at 178 runs in 27.5 overs. Varun Sood (45) and Shawez Khan (38) were the main scorers for the batting side. For UPCA, Ankit and Praveen Gupta claimed three wickets each. Rohit Chawdhary, Prashant Gupta and Ashish Yadav also pocketed a wicket each. Easy win for Sahara India Meanwhile, in another match played at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy (ACA) grounds, Sahara India defeated Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) by 75 runs. Abhimanyu Cricket Academy was routed by LDA, Lucknow, by eight wickets in the third match. ACA set a target of 153 runs in 20 overs while LDA achieved the target in 17.5 overs scoring 155 runs. |

Mussoorie, May 17 In the first semifinal between Mumbai and Maharashtra, Maharashtra, batting first, scored 130 runs in 16 overs. Rahul scored 46 runs, Mayuresh 15 and Bilas 13 for Maharashtra. Mumbai achieved the target in the last ball of the final over scraping through into the final. In the second semifinal between Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, the latter, batting first, set a target of 133 runs in which Dhiraj scored 37 and Ashish 48 for Rajasthan. In reply Uttar Pradesh won comfortably in the end. For UP, Atul scored 62 runs in 32 balls and Praveen 45. The final is scheduled for tomorrow at around 11 am at the same venue. |
Doon International School win boys’ basketball title

In the boys’ final, Doon International School beat Welham Boys School 36-25 to become the champion. Kamran of the winning team scored 12 points and Vijay of Welham scored eight points. While in the girls’ final, Welham Girls School found no match in Jaswant Modern School whom it outplayed by 39-4. Riya of the Welham struck 16 points to play a major role in the win. Welhamites showed all round performance in today’s encounter to thrash Jaswant School. Later, the winning and the runner-up teams were given prizes. Director of Doon International School Gagan Maan distributed the prizes to the children and congratulated them on the success. |

In the stipulated time, this match ended goalless. However, in the penalty shootouts, XI Star got past Doon Valley. Naushad, Akash, Shiva and Lobsang were the scorers for the winning team while Balvinder scoreed for Doon Valley. In the second encounter, Bajrang Football Club defeated Sarvodaya Football Club 2-0. Mahender Negi (38th minute) and Saurabh Bisht (47th) were the scorers for the winning team while Sarvodaya players failed to strike any goal. Tomorrow, Akranta will face Shivalik and Doon Star will play against Sunderwala in knockouts. |
